I replaced the autolites from the PO with a spare set of ZD9's. All went well except for the bugger under the turbo. It was only half threaded in to start with and I could only get the replacement about the same.
I'm thinking that I need to pull the turbo so I can get a tap in there and...
Check your TPS for sure that is the easiest/cheapest fix. I had to eventually replace my ECU when I had the same issue, corrosion . The local tranny shop found me a replacement ($500). I blamed the missing rubber seal that runs across the top of the firewall.
Good chance the tach sensor needs to be replaced. I was experiencing the same thing on my 89 (makes for an unhappy E4OD). I believe it is a dealer only item, for a new one at least.
It sits on the pump housing and pretty simple to change.
Needs a trans but not bad for the $$. To far from me though.

I have and 89 F350 bricknose single cab. Both are 2wd.
The 450 is a cab/chassis bricknose with a nice cab and a 5-speed. I have a dually box and E4OD.
Ultimate goal is to marry the F450 cab and trans with the F350 engine and dually truck box. I like the idea of a full f450 with a dually...
From past posts I recall a similar issue with the torque converter cutting in and out which was tied to a brake light issue. The TQ on the E40D cuts out when the brakes are applied (lights come on). I believe there is a connection to the cruise control as well.
I have no experience with either but I've heard of Dyna Beads. The principle seems the same however Dyna Beads go inside the tire making them much much cheaper.
That's where I found my replacement, I always start with car-part for hard to find stuff like this.
The struggle with wrecking yards though is the hours. Most are still M-F 8-5pm, which isn't always workable for most working stiffs.
Ryan,
Did you ever get this figured out? I think have the same issue. Mines NA but I started my truck today without the air cleaner on (can't tell you the last time I've had it running the the cleaner off) and there is a definite tick like a loud exhaust leak. Put the air cleaner back on and I...
Does seem to be a common issue. The problem is finding a replacement. Most wrecking yards are only open M-F, 8-5pm which is rather inconvenient for us do-it youreselfers.. I pulled mine yesterday morning and drove to a yard south of Atlanta in the afternoon to pick one up. Took longer to drive...
A few weeks back the truck started making a nasty, rattly kinda what the heck is that sort a noise. Started out as a very slight tick and 30 miles later I wasn't sure what was going on.
Got on OB, did a little searching and decided the flexplate was the likely candidate.
What it looked...
My wife and I drove from Knoxville to San Diego and back a few years ago, had to haul out a 67 Mustang and new trailer. Anyway, we went out the way your returning. Some parts were a little long but the trip, including west texas, it was fascinating drive tough. From the monsterous dairy farms to...
Guess ya have to be a fan of "My name is Earl". A goofy sitcom that takes place in a trailer park that fits your description. Jaime Pressly is one of the cast members. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&biw=993&bih=709&q=jaime+pressly&gbv=2&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=
Common mis-conception but the sticker on your door has absolutely nothing to do with legal or illegal. What is legal/illegal is defined by the state you are traveling in.
The door sticker shows what the manufacturer defines as an upper limit for the combination of hardware (Engine, trans...
Things are getting more expensive for sure. To top it off the CEO of Wallyworld was saying yesterday that they can't hold prices down much longer. He's expecting some significant price increases in the June or July timeframe. Yiipee!
I am running 4.56's right now but I have a set of 3.55's...
Thanks Speeder.
I took a chance on a speed sensor rather than having to trailer the truck to town to get the codes read since it is only a $20 part and I was successful. Took it for a quick spin tonight and it is shifting normally and the OD light is back to normal operation.
No on to...
