    6.0 possible injector issues

Does the truck have the issue when cold or does it have to be warmed up? How much pressure did y’all put to it? Setup your sct to show more PIDs at one time. Rather than the default layout. Then setup the screen to show ICP IPR FICM output EOT ECT RPM And the rest is up to you. Then...

Could be FICM, could be bad batteries, could be....... So once you got it moved closer to the shop, did it get air tested?

Once this issue is sorted I’d recommend doing a coolant flush and cleaning the degas bottle. You don’t want any residual deposits in the system. A truck can blow coolant with a tune and then not show pressurize the system with a different tune. It depends how bad it has been blown and what...

You know they’ve been done because of residue on the degas? I’m not following.

I’m not saying the ipr is causing it. I’m saying that when you unplug the ICP, the ipr raises the pressure and that can show sealing issues or HPOP issues. A new IPR can be bad. But not likely. I doubt it is a bad HPOP. I was just covering possibilities in general.

The bubble test will help you eliminate bad o-rings, bad coppers, cracked tips and a cracked head from the equation. It’s not a guarantee. But it’s a good tool. Then the air test will verify no leaks in the HP oil side. After that, you’re down to electronics, wiring, injector, or a weak HPOP.

I’d bubble test it(super fast, super easy). And if no bubbles I’d air test at the ICP since the work was performed on that side. I bubble test and air test every truck that I take apart before I even start it. I’m t takes a few minutes. But it will save a tear down occasionally. For the one it...

Here is a pic of samples from a single truck. The truck was flushed prior to work. However as the samples show, it takes multiple flushes to get good results sometimes. This truck was not in a condition to run for extended time periods and flushed the way we prefer. These samples are post...

I just had a chance to watch the vids. I noticed that your supply voltage to the FICM was low. Even though the FICM is outputting 48v, that low input can cause issues. Plus the 48v may not be to all injectors. The buzz and balance will tell a bit more. Though a truck can fail a buzz and even...

Since it’s an 04.5 and you did work on the passenger side-pull the ICP, do an air test there. That’s your most likely source of issues. Up to you if you want to pull the valve cover first. But I’m guessing you’ll probably be pulling it based on what we know.

The reason I put the tests in the order that I did is due to ease of the procedures and that the earlier physical tests require no special tools or fittings.

A couple things first- Tell us about the truck, year, any work thats been done, modifications, other problems, etc... I will not reseal a nipple on a high pressure rail, or the top of an injector. I've seen far too many failures and HP oil leaks. If it is 04.5-07 has it had the updated stand...

@bismic1 knows these systems very well and he can weigh in. My opinion is that the external cooler is nice and does a good job. Unfortunately they are quite expensive. Especially when a guy is not planning on a repair or his truck being down. Unfortunately the bulletproof external cooler is...

I’ll grab some photos in the next few days in the next one I do some flushes on. I’ve already done his pre work flushes. So these will be post work and show you how much hunk is in the factory cooling system. This truck did not have a blown egr or oil cooler. It is purely blown headgaskets...

I have done some of the external coolers before. I still do them on occasion if requested. I believe that the clogged oil coolers can be avoided a second time in 90 plus percent of trucks if the cooling system is completely cleaned up, the proper “red” coolant is used, and cooling system...

    Intermittent high pressure oil trouble.

Base fuel pressure? Base oil pressure? Use a mechanical gauge to verify. ICP voltage KOEO? ICP pressure while cranking? IPR duty cycle? Have you inspected your IPR? Do you have a scan tool? If so, check the above and report back. If you don't then unplug and inspect the pigtails at the ICP...

Glad to hear it. I've been swamped in the shop lately(this is the earliest night I'v had in quite a while), so I haven't been able to write up the next portion. But, feel free to ask any questions and I'm happy to answer them. A couple things I forgot to mention- 1. Every truck gets a pre...

    What is a good starter for a 6.0 ???

We use the 6.4 starters on most of the 6.0s that we replace. You can also use a 6.7 starter. But have to use a bushing on the bottom bolt. I leave it up to the customer to decide. From time to time I find the 6.7 starter about $50 cheaper.

Thank you to Firehawk, TheWesPaul, and Agnem.

I wanted to say thank you to a few members for help on a 7.3idi project. I have a small diesel shop that specializes in performance upgrades and repair. However IDIs are not something that I’ve worked on a ton. Unfortunately I also could not purchase a Ferret or similar meter in a timely...
