Electric Vacuum pump vs Hydro-boost swap

Ah, so it seems like a EP for just the breaks isn't gonna work. Which HB booster do I need specifically? I used an Astro van booster on my bronco, but I'm not sure that'll work here.

Electric Vacuum pump vs Hydro-boost swap

So I'm likely going to end up doing the hydroboost swap, but in the meantime; what's a good electric pump to use? If I need it for A/C and cruise later, I may as well add it now so I can keep driving the truck.

Electric Vacuum pump vs Hydro-boost swap

Hey y'all, Just had my third mechanical vacuum pump die on me, so I've decided to replace it with something else. I could go with the electric pump route, just plumbing into my existing lines; or run a hydro-boost setup. I've done a hydro-boost conversion before, albeit on an old bronco; but I...

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

Y'ALL I FINALLY GOT IT!!! I went through the wiring diagrams and pulled everything it connected to one piece at a time. Ended up being the low vacuum sensor in the engine bay. Disconnected that, put a new fuse in, and fired the truck up. All my gauges work fine. Is it even worth replacing that...

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

Yep, still blows with the cluster unplugged. It does something weird that I've never seen before. If you have no fuse in there, the glow plug controller doesn't work. If you put a blown fuse in there the glow plug controller will work. I'm guessing my problem is on the red and yellow wire...

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

Nothing jumping out at me, is there some way to test the different pins to see if there's a short somewhere in the circuit board? By the way, thanks for all the help so far! Electrical work was never my strong suit and I would never have made it this far without help

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

Do you mean the circuits on the back of the cluster? If so what exactly am I looking for, burn marks?

Hooking the cluster back up with no fuse, 33 on 200

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

I pulled the fuse out of the box, and now have the cluster unhooked. I now see zero on 200, and 0.5 on 2K

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

Which setting? At 200, I have about 17 on the tester

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

All right, I'm entirely at a loss. Before pulling the tach wires and starting the car would keep the fuse intact, after replacing the tachometer and it's connector, starting the car with it intact will still blow the fuse. Where on Earth could the short be at? Any ideas at this point would be...

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

UPDATE: I disconnected a little gray connection that runs in the loom going to the alternator. By the look of it, it controls the tachometer but I'm not 100% sure. Doing that I can start the truck and my fuse remains intact. I don't see anything that looks burnt or frayed. I'll keep y'all in the...

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

So I disconnected the eight pin plug that goes on the passenger fender, should disconnect all Glow plug power. Set the key to run position glow plug relay still sounds like it's clicking. Pushing key to start immediately pops the fuse and the truck doesn't even crank. That makes me think it's...

87 f250 fuse 15 blows when starting the truck

Hey y'all, Been fighting an electrical problem with my 250 for the better part of a month. I put new injectors in my truck, went to fire it up, and saw smoke pouring from my solenoid. When I had put the glow plug relocator with my Banks kit back in, the two thick brown wires had just barely...

'87 F250 | swapped stock water separator for 7.3 head and filter, water in fuel light intermittent

I'm just running the wix fuel/water filter with the 12 point drain on the bottom, no sender. Do you mean on the filter or the filter head?

'87 F250 | swapped stock water separator for 7.3 head and filter, water in fuel light intermittent

Hey y'all, I deleted my '87 6.9 water separator due to an air intrusion problem. I've replaced it with a 7.3 filter head and water separator filter. I've only run it for about a hundred miles, and my water and fuel light is intermittent. I don't even think I have anything hooked up to find the...

Plastic return line cap melted? How to prevent in the future.

I know you can get the o-rings at TSC. Anywhere in particular you can get the washers?

Plastic return line cap melted? How to prevent in the future.

I've got spare o-rings. I think the injector itself is fine, but it'd be good to pick up one or two while I'm already in the yard

Plastic return line cap melted? How to prevent in the future.

I was looking for carbon on the tip, didn't see much if any. There was a little bit on the threads, but I reckon the heat would have burned some of that off. I did see blow by coming out from the injector hole with the injector still in the engine, so I think my heat was coming up the side, not...

Plastic return line cap melted? How to prevent in the future.

Any good way to check it? By ear it didn't sound like the engine was missing or sputtering.

Plastic return line cap melted? How to prevent in the future.

I've got a local U-pull yard with a good selection of complete 7.3 IDI's. Will the 7.3 injectors can caps work with the 6.9? If so, I'll pick one up this weekend.

Plastic return line cap melted? How to prevent in the future.

There honestly wasn't any carbon buildup on the injector itself, which seemed to be a good sign. I actually run WMO, which has a higher flash point; but yeah it's a really good thing it didn't ignite. I'll look into the rails. I do have a turbo, so would the heat be a concern with aluminum? I...

Plastic return line cap melted? How to prevent in the future.

Hey y'all, I was bringing my truck into work this morning when I noticed a distinct burning smell. I was hoping it was the guy in front of me, but the smoke coming under my dash quelled that suspicion. I get her off the road, pop the hood, and fuel is gushing out of the driver side cylinder one...

    Sidewinder | Boost gauge woes

Hey y'all. Threw a sidewinder kit on my '87 over the weekend and love it to death. Went up 2.5 flats and it feels like a totally different truck. While wrapping up the details I put in the pyrometer and boost gauge. The pyrometer works like a champ, the boost gauge doesn't read anything. First...

Air intrusion | Replace the olives or replace steel lines

DONE A LITTLE MORE DISCOVERING | I was looking around the truck for some completely unrelated work when I noticed the water separator/fuel filter on the firewall. I'd never even noticed it, and it look like the original so I decided to do a little digging on it to replace it. Surprisingly, it...
