    Inline vs plug block heater

My (1987) block heater still seems to be working. What is it heating? The coolant or oil? The truck started fine today at 15F even though I forgot to plug it in. But I assume there's less wear and tear if a bit of warmth is added before starting. How long should it be plugged it before starting...

Merry Christmas as well and a happy new year

Merry Christmas! (I'm surprised that we're still allowed to say that in "today's world")

    Spare 7.3

Somebody's gotta do it so we can all enjoy. ;-) I saw some of the work my Dad did to maintain our pool when I was a kid. And I'm sure there was a lot that I didn't see. Not worth it for the amount it got used, imho. (short season in New England) But we did have many great days in it. And for...

    Thanks for the help.

I enjoyed our time in Eugene, OR. And then we spent a few years in SLC, UT. Which was great also. But your roots, and family/friends call you back home. And it's also a bit weird not being able to go to the ocean if you want to (when in UT). If she ever leaves me I'll probably move to a dumpy...

    Thanks for the help.

Right after we got married in 1990 we bought a 1978 2wd F-100? F-150? with a bench seat and a 351W for $800 and over-loaded it with all our crap + towed her Toyota Supra behind it from Massachusetts to Oregon. She used to sit right next to me in those days. :) Best truck I ever had, except for...

    Thanks for the help.

I have a bit of wind noise from the passenger door seal. But that's just a slight distraction from the engine noise. Either these are just that loud or maybe I have a cracked exhaust manifold. Although the intake seems to be contributing quite a bit of noise also. Even if I could quiet it down...

    Engine teardown adventure

"...too many visits from the ether bunny." "...this is how much an oil pan will dent if you knock the cherry picker over." LOL!

    Thanks for the help.

Well, you're at least one step ahead of me with the ZF-5. The 3-spd and the noise in the cab are really the only things keeping me from loving this truck. But I don't see me "fixing" them. I will either learn to live with it or sell it. As of now, I'm keeping it.

    Thanks for the help.

Well, I've considered selling it and trying to get my $ back out of it but then what the heck would I buy? Another electronically-controlled mess that I have to pay someone to work on?

    Thanks for the help.

I just wanted to say that my truck is now where I consider it my "daily driver". Except that I don't drive every day. Maybe a trip to the corner store mid-week and then on the weekend a trip to the dump and hardware store, etc. Working from home sucks but it does save on fuel and wear/tear on...

    Intake gaskets in stock

I bought one for $120 when they recently reappeared because I was afraid of needing one some day and not being able to find one. And I also grabbed one of those 3G alternators when someone here posted a deal on them. Again, for fear of needing one some day. In my experience, this is the best way...

Russ hard line delete kit help

It is running smoothly. Thanks. I took it on the 70mph turnpike this weekend for the 1st time. I was on it for @ 1 hr. each way. I was really nervous because I have the C6 3sp and the fastest I've gone was @60mph. I got it up to @ 68mph and I don't think I was on the governor so I just set my...

93 n/a alternator and tach sensor wiring

Welcome to OilBurners. Did you already buy an alternator? If not, might be a good time to upgrade. Many here recommend going to a 3G alternator. This may, or may not, help. But it's all I've got. https://www.oilburners.net/threads/3g-alternator-question.87851/...

    New injector lines

Well thanks for the boot in my *** to try to make these things right. Well, they're not 100% right but it's better. I guess. I don't really understand what these clamps are doing but you all know better than me. I was able to get a new 3-clamp on 4,6,8 and another new 3-clamp on 2,4,6 (supposed...

    My options, and your opinions.

The problem with the "invincibles" is that they don't consider that 4x4 doesn't help with braking or cornering(much). And they don't practice and know how to handle a drifting/sliding vehicle. 4x4 is mostly for getting up slippery hills. I prefer to drive without it until I'm actually faced with...

    New Injection pump question

Maybe fill the fuel filter with ATF and then run the engine until it starts burning that and then shut it down and let it sit overnight. Cheap/easy thing to try and can't hurt.

Russ hard line delete kit help

I had one. Thanks for the offer though. Do you know where we can buy the copper injector washers without buying a whole kit? Or, maybe you could add that to your store?

    underbody/frame coating recommendations

Around here, in the Rust Belt, most use Fluid Film or NH Oil Undercoating. They are messy when you go to work on something later but they do work well. I would stay away from solid coatings such as bed liner spray. Water will eventually get under it and then it's trapped in there.

    New injector lines

Another posted here that he was able to make them work so don't write them off on my account. I just don't feel comfortable bending or stressing them very much. That may be just due to my lack of experience with them.

    New injector lines

Thank you for the effort but those are all many hours from me. I will check that site out and see what I can come up with. I appreciate the link.

    New injector lines

They are odd. But they do work well. I wonder how tolerant they are of being off-center. That's why I didn't start bending them any more than I had to to get them to sit in their seats properly. To try bending them again (after being tightened down in their happy place) to accept the clamps...

Sounds like you need a visit up North once ice fishing season starts. And my new ice shack is almost done. Consider that an invite.
