    Steering - Binding

I can give that a try. Assume you turn the wheel a bit, then spin the tire by hand?

    Clutch Start Switch?

I'll check that. I may have a replacement in my garage. I got a box of spare parts with my last IDI truck.

    Clutch Start Switch?

Lots of slop in my plastic bushing. I happen to have another one at home. I think that is the issue... will also check for firewall movement.

    Clutch Start Switch?

Every so often my truck will not crank when I turn the key. I hear a solenoid noise like the starter relay from somewhere under the dash or in the engine bay, but it does not turn over. I usually press the clutch pedal in/out again, try again, and it will then crank up. Starter is new. Is this...

    Steering - Binding

Ever try a box from a company called LARES? They make, what is claimed to be a brand new box for $200 https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=7516080&cc=1124299&jsn=490&jsn=490

    Steering - Binding

Sounds reasonable to me. Replacing the box did improve the problem in a big way. It was really bad before. Are any of the reman boxes better than another?

    Steering - Binding

I have essentially replaced the entire front end on my truck. Leaf springs, shackles, tie rod ends, center link, steering box, axle pivot bushings. While the steering is nice and tight now after all that work, i'm having a weird binding issue. When driving, The steering will occasionally bind...

    Flywheel Fiasco

THERE IS A TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY! It was the exhaust. The up or down pipe must have been tweaked during install. That was the problem. It was contacting the cab/firewall. Which explained why the sound went away with a load on the engine, and why it was worse with a deceleration load. Thanks to...

    Flywheel Fiasco

Heard back from the shop today. The guy who pulled the transmission is on vacation until next week, but they had one or two other mechanics look at it and drive it. One has a theory that has some merit, the turbo up/down pipe is rubbing against the firewall or transmission tunnel. When you put...

    LUK 07-225

By the way.. see thread "flywheel fiasco".. kit is NOT working fine (OP knows this) Probably not an issue with the LUK kit, rather an installation problem, but I will update that thread with whatever the outcome is, for the benefit of the membership here

    Flywheel Fiasco

I’m definitely not driving the truck, except to try and diagnose this problem. It’s back at the shop now... Forgetting the backing plate would cause that issue you describe. That’s where my money is now. I might even go over there before work and try to grab the flywheel and see if it is...

    Flywheel Fiasco

Yeah, just gonna be patient and see if they can fix it. I think the shop and myself are both frustrated at this point, but it does not make sense to get mad about anything.

    Flywheel Fiasco

Will probably take you up on that, send me a PM. Worth a few bucks to have one out here. I don’t know for sure that they did not re use the factory backing plate as per the instructions, just a suspicion. But, per the LUK rep, that could cause my problem

I took the truck home and pulled the inspection plate off. Noise still there. No marks on inspection plate. They lost or threw out my DMF.

    Flywheel Fiasco

Thanks to BrianX for sending pictures of his kit... I have not heard back yet about the inspection cover, if that solved the issue or not. This part about reusing the factory backing plate jumps out at me as a potential problem area. I called the number on the bulletin there and talked to a...

    Flywheel Fiasco

Thank you. Sadly it is a hangar queen right now. The one part that is almost impossible to find is a working power pack (unit containing hydraulic pump/reservoir and valves that move the gear and flaps up/down). After going through two used pumps we sent a pump off to an aircraft hydraulic shop...

    Flywheel Fiasco

They are going to pull it off and let me know. Also having them save my old DMF and parts. If the inspection plate does not fix it, we will pull the transmission and see whats up. So i'll have a range of options. Right now I have a LUK 07225 kit in the truck, an unopened perfection 12" clutch...

    Flywheel Fiasco

I drained the ZF5 when I got the truck about 2 months ago, normal looking ATF came out, refilled with Mercron V. Did not overfill, level was right at the fill plug.

    Flywheel Fiasco

I cut power with the ignition when decelerating with the throttle closed down a hill about 2000 RPM in 3rd gear. No change in sound at all. Still making a hideous racket, its super loud at that RPM. Push in the clutch, and it still makes the noise, just not as loud, and it winds down with engine...

    Flywheel Fiasco

I will give that a try. Pretty sure it’s not going to go away. The truck is basically undrivable. Sounds exactly like my problem. The description anyway, hard to hear anything in the video. I wonder what else they could have screwed up. Does anyone happen to have one of these kits (Luke...

    Flywheel Fiasco

Noise continues with clutch in. Makes a grinding noise in neutral with the clutch in, revving engine up/down. Makes same noise when clutch is in between gears. Not saying it isn't injection related.

    Flywheel Fiasco

Thanks for all the replies. (Sincerely, thank you!) None of the injectors leak or anything like that. I cleaned the bores, old copper washers came out, I torqued them to spec with a $$$$ torque wrench and the proper 1" socket. Caps are tight, no leaks. Timing is spot on at 8 deg btdc @2000 rpm...
