Opinion needed on replacement of engine

"Scratches" the oil pump and cooler meaning it wipes them out. The fine metal particles going through a pump is not a good thing and apparently the oil goes through the cooler before getting to the filter. That would also kill the cooler for installation on another engine.

Opinion needed on replacement of engine

Okay now. I picked up a rebuilt crate engine. It went ****. Sounded like a rod bearing? Upon tear down I found the valve cover baffle broke off the inside and was bouncing off the valve train. That scratches the oil pump and the oil cooler. My valve cover is my problem and my...

    FIX or REPAIR DAILY. . . (P)*&(O)*&^(S)^*!!

I wasn't the re-builder nor the installer of the current engine. I was the poor slob who turned the key and falsely believed all was good.

    FIX or REPAIR DAILY. . . (P)*&(O)*&^(S)^*!!

Well, when sh&88T goes south, it becomes an avalanche. Last trans, E4OD, was rebuilt by a GM guy. It had problems from day one and I dealt with it. My solution has now become to drop in an Allison. The engine is a crate motor and the valve cover dropped a baffle that disintegrated while bouncing...

    Air stuck in heater core

Yeah, It was working good until you removed the radiator cap and disturbed the seal, right? Simply put since the seal was disturbed you need to get the seal re-established on the cap. That rad cap has two seals on it if you look at it. The bottom seal caps off the radiator. The top seal caps...

    Valve cover with baffle.

Yep. That is the monster. After haven given it a copious amount of thought, The thought of tack welding it back on is, in my opinion, a future possibility for another failure. Remove it completely? That would pump oil into the CDR. Not really a good thing. Fill the CDR with steel wool to stop it...

    Valve cover with baffle.

Well, after a fast search around Portland, nothing has been found for a valve cover with a baffle under the vent valve. Hmm. Welding the other one back up is not a great confidence which leaves. . . Not much else. Then again. . . Anybody have one?

    Valve cover with baffle.

Hello one and all. Well, I pulled the engine, removed everything, pulled off the last valve cover and the oil baffle inside the valve cover with the vent valve was bouncing off the valve train. Can you say metal in the engine? Guess I will scratch the oil pump and...

    It's fallen . . . and won't come out.

Thanks for the replies, my desire is to not pull the rad support and the trans is already off. The Walbro pump might be the way I go as it seems there is no longer a great rep with many pumps. This might be a temp situation until the engine is broke in a bit. Looks like I will be pulling off...

    It's fallen . . . and won't come out.

Thought that would get your attention. . . . '94 idiT engine is stuck. Do I get to pull the turbo to get the engine out? I haven't pulled the starter off either but looking at the bottom, it *might* have enough clearance to get out(?) Tomorrow I hope to call Florida and get the Allison coming...

Headlight / dimmer switch keeps popping fuse..

Your not going to like me. . . Remove ALL of your exterior lamps. Remove your dome light. Remove your dome light. Now pull on the HL switch. Fuse still blow? NO? Put your bulbs back in after inspecting each one. One at a time.

    Pulling engine // advice

Thank you. The thought of balancing it along with installation is not a pleasant idea. I get to run off this morning and do a few other things not quite planned and then this afternoon I should be pulling it out. A few weeks to send it back and get it re-done and then put it all back together...

    Pulling engine // advice

Well, today was pulling out the bottom parafinelia. I got the wife out to hand me tools and laugh at the appropriate times. Just before I quit I got the trans/transfer case pulled back about an inch from the engine. The top bolt on the starter is still holding the starter to the engine. I will...

Yep. I missed that detail. I did however grab a fine tipped black marker and draw lines over the hinge positions. Whit touch up paint in the future will be coming.

    Pulling engine // advice

True enough but currently I still have the A/C system intact. A needed item when the wife gets in after this current expenditure and it is working without the need of servicing. Today being Sunday is a good day to rest and perhaps later on, I will go out and lube the exhaust studs and let them...

    Pulling engine // advice

Well, so much for Saturday. I got the top side done today, the truck pretty well jacked up and the motor mount nuts off. Diamond Eye exhaust system might get in the way. I hope not, but it is NOT tucked up where it should be. Now I am once again, foolish A** me, looking (long...

    Pulling engine // advice

A/C was laid to the side, and the 80 pound radiator is out along with a few other chunks. When Diamond Eye built the exhaust system, I told them I desired a flange on the down pipe to disconnect to pull it with the engine R/R. I don't believe they did it, nor did they weld in the **** for the...

    Pulling engine // advice

59 lookers and no responses. Cool beans. I got the rad drained and the hood off, the A/C laid aside. Left hand threaded fan clutch is off, (Left hand thread means reverse threaded stupid!) I guess two floor jacks will get a work out soon enough raising that beast. Hmm. Engine out might be a...

    Pulling engine // advice

'94 idiT 7.3 crewcab dually project. Engine, tans and transfer case ALL need to come out. I would love to leave the hood on but don't think that will be an option. Drain and pull the radiator is the first step. I have a tractor with a 1200# pallet forks adapter that will get that done easy...
