    If I recall, it was about 15F when I filmed this: I replaced the glow plugs about 8 years ago, return lines around 2 years ago, batteries are 2 years old costco interstates, and I put a gear reduction starter on it a few years back.

    if I were a betting man, Id wager the cylinder walls are wiped mirror smooth from excessive idle hours. Pretty common in old diesels, especially in cold climates or ambulance use.

    you put the races in with no shims and measure the total play, in my case 0.0655 on the main and 0.073 on the countershaft. Then you add 2 or 3 thou to those numbers, take the races back out and place shims under them, then put it back together. The process can be seen in the service manual...

    I was kind of considering putting it on a toggle switch on the dash, so I could turn it on 5 mins before starting, and then I wouldn't need it at all in the summer so I could just not turn it on. From what it sounds like though, I might stick the cap back on and wire a blanket heater up like that.

    I know for a fact the fuel goes hardline>pigtail>lift pump>hardline>filter>hardline>IP>hardline>injectors, so unless the separator is hooked in before the hardline to the lift pump, its gone. Im about 95% sure its not physically there anyway.
