So what did you do with your truck today?

I cant count high enough for the number of times ive slammed my knee on the tri-ball sticking out the back of my truck while loading up logs.

Good thing you have that root beer on top of the support to help level it out. Whats the intercooler out of? Do you have any concerns about it obstructing air flow through your primary radiator?

Question Re: Buying A Diesel Vs A Gas Truck

Its a fairly mild engine, came out of a 2001 mountaineer with 270k on it. Was my cousins until it got side swiped and totalled but still was able to drive it into my shop to be stripped for parts. GT40P heads are on it with trick flows on the bench. Mild crane cam, dont remember the exact specs...

Question Re: Buying A Diesel Vs A Gas Truck

Here it was while I pulled it apart to start restoring it. Heres mid engine bay frame connection being rebuilt after blasting and coating the inside. Here it was after rebuilding most of that area.

Question Re: Buying A Diesel Vs A Gas Truck

Worst rodent damage ive had were in my 77 280z. Old battery had been left in the car and allowed to freeze and crack, leaking all the acid out over several years sitting in a side yard. Acid rotted through the fender, firewall, down the pass side frame, under the floor by the time I got my hands...

Question Re: Buying A Diesel Vs A Gas Truck

Thats interesting, the scanner I have works at least on the 99-01 PSDs, never tried on the OBS models though. Did the first gens ever go to OBD2 or were they OBD1 until the body change in 99? Ive used a generic scanner for the 6.0, 6.4, and 6.7 and it has worked. Only time I run into issues...

Question Re: Buying A Diesel Vs A Gas Truck

TBH, I use a little bluetooth scanner and my cell phone 95% of the time for vehicles where it works, which is most of them. Been using them for years to start investigating an issue and they have yet to lead me astray. Ive had a modis for over a decade but it rarely comes out because I rarely...

Question Re: Buying A Diesel Vs A Gas Truck

Ive been working on vehicles for around 15 years now, both gas and diesel, old and new. Oldest vehicle I worked on was late 60s, newest was 2021. I currently own a 94 superduty idi, a 77 datsun, a 2007 MS3, and a 2012 Volvo. I can tell you right now, modern electronics are a hell of a lot more...

    OBS F-Super Duty Trailer Hitch

So this truck actually had an extremely heavy rear bumper that is effectively a 3/4" wall steel rectangle with a hinging lid and gusseted bottom for extra strength. Inside is a folding 1ton crane with electric 6000lbs winch and 50ft of cable. I removed the crane assembly as I wont really be...

    Aluminum radiator upgrade

Interesting concern. Is the OEM radiator grounded with a strap? Also - isnt the radiator directly bolted to the support frame which is then grounded to the frame? Or is the Radiator mounted on bushings to insulate vibration from the frame?

    7.3 idit build

Just going to throw this out there. You will be better served using a micrometer for these measurements. Good quality calipers with calibration certs are only accurate to around +/- .002" at best. Meaning, every time you take a measurement with them, it could be anywhere with a .004" window. If...

How good or bad is the E4OD?

I assume you could now make the connecting cooler lines using Nicopp. Easy to form, relatively cheap, handles around 5,000+PSI at 3/8 diameter. I usually put a little curly coil of it somewhere to help eliminate fatigue from flexing, although given the length of run that probably isnt necessary...

How good or bad is the E4OD?

Theres some good info. What do people use for additional radiators to improve the capacity on these transmissions?

How good or bad is the E4OD?

Ahh I gotcha. I have seen controllers for these that allow you to control the transmission semi-manually. The inputs used by the TCM to control shift points and TC lockup are extremely simplistic. There are ways to have a controller that sends a signal to lockup the TC and/or force it to shift...

How good or bad is the E4OD?

What do you mean by "OD lockup"? Is that just turning OD off or is that a feature of the shift controller?

How good or bad is the E4OD?

Ive owned both ZF5 and E4OD 7.3s and I dont prefer either one. The E4OD seems to be tougher and I have seen people put way more power in front of a stock E4OD than a stock IDI ZF5 without damaging it. The only real problem I have had with an E4OD is that the stock cooler is kind of small if you...

    7.3 idit build

You could probably pickup Flouropenetrant fluid for a fairly cheap price as well which, when combined with a blacklight flashlight, should show any fine cracks. There are also testing facilities that offer this service for a fairly cheap price. My company uses one right down the road from us and...

It heavily depends on what the compared ARP studs were comprised of. CDD's off brand studs are noted as alloy 8740 which is a common material for head studs, and is in fact used by ARP for some of their hardware. CDD notes that their other brand studs are american made, fully hardened and heat...

Let’s make a deal - Sell me the website?

Always. Thats the thing, it seems to me that 99% of unique topics have been brought up and I rarely see anything "new" outside of specific member projects being posted. Which really arent new, its just neat to see how people go about mounting their turbo setups and what process others use. Thats...

Let’s make a deal - Sell me the website?

I feel like this is the natural progression of a forum, particularly one revolving around a fairly narrow topic such as trucks with this one engine in it. There is almost a finite quantity of information about a narrow topic that can be discussed and at some point, everything has been talked...

    Wide-range ZF-5 poll

7.3s have cooling issues? Only time I ever had a cooling issue was when a piece of debris smashed my AC rad AND my thermostat jammed at the same time. Finally overheated sitting in 100 degree, direct sunlight idling in a parking lot for half an hour while loading up ~400 2x4s on it... Wrecker...

Now what? Oil pressure came back.

I have had 3 trucks now where the oil pressure gauge would seem to stick initially. Even my current truck does it sometimes. Shows no oil pressure unless I tap on the dash above the gauge cluster once or twice. Give it a light smack and the needle pops right up and moves around freely after...

    New age headlights

I picked up new headlight housings. You can get them with different light diffusion than the OEMs. Then switched them to LEDs or HIDS or whatever they are. Not expensive, 10x better than stock, less draw/heat, and they have that clean cutoff line that you can adjust easily and accurately. I...
