New Project 6.9 E350, what did I get myself into.

That priming process is pretty ingenious.

I'm glad you caught that. I thought it was so deadpan that no one would have noticed it. LOL

Wow. that website looks like it was designed in 1999, but the earliest archive.org record is from 2013. Crazy indeed. If I were a bettin' man, I would personally download all that content to PDF's asap. I've found that old websites like that die off. They always say the "internet always...

I like it. The only thing I'd adjust is the length of your bleeder. My first iteration stopped about where yours is, and it was hard to fit a cup under the bleeder without it hitting the AC compressor. My 2nd iteration had a longer neck. But it's really nice. You'll like this so much more...

Defrost only, no vents or floor

A long time ago, i had the vacuum selector valve leak on me. Found a replacement in the junk yard. It plugs to the back of the climate control. The leak led to my vents not working. I could hear it leaking when i turned off the van and it was hissing. What's more likely is you have a vac...

New Project 6.9 E350, what did I get myself into.

Since the oil pump is nothing more than a pickup tube and gear-driven pump, I'm not really sure why it would need to primed. just out of my own curiosity, I decided to read up on the official Ford Service Manual (1988) Diesel supplement, just to see if there are any notes on priming the pump...

    Dead truck... please help!

That yellow wires burn up was the first repair I did on my first IDI. I got it home, parked it, the next day I fired it up and smelled plastic. Turned off the key and my plug looked exactly like that. Did a bypass of the two yellow wires and it's been good for 8 years. The connector must not...

    electric fuel pump conversion

Since you have a van, do yourself a favor and delete the stock filterhead as well. The mech lift pump and filter head take up way too much room in that engine bay, and it'll be 1000x better if you install your e-pump and filters on the frame rail. Here's a write-up of my setup on the tranny...

Dude. I love all the work you are putting into this IDI Van. You have the same fuel setup as I have (I mounted mine on the crossmember), and also, your junction block is very similar to my fuel manifold I made. I was able to check my fuel pressure in the bay with the mechanical gauge on the...

    No headlights

My van had this same problem. My lights would turn off randomly and still get some 12 voltage. It was odd. I replaced the switch but that didn't help. Then I replaced the connector and that fixed it. My photos are here...

    Is this drivable?

Never, NEVER, buy anything from a mechanic. I guarantee you that engine is 100x worse than it looks, and he used his remedial mechanical skills to get it running to the point where you think it might be worth it. I have three rules about buying used cars. 1.) I never buy a car that broke...

    Mini-excavator engine removal

Yikes. It's never an easy job to pull that from the van, but it's an even harder job when the tool doesn't do what it's supposed to.

    Mini-excavator engine removal

take off as much as you can off the block. it'll make your engine pull 1000x easier. pull off the IP, tranny, TC, oil filter, the injectors, injector lines, etc. Your problem is going to be trying to get the oil pan over the crossmember but not hit the engine bay ceiling with the chain and...

I made a lengthy post about the differences between the van and truck IDI engines here: https://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/turbo/differences-between-the-idi-van-and-idi-truck-engines/ As for pulling a van engine out with a tractor or forklift or leveler... good luck. there ain't no way you'll...

how to remove turbo while in truck?

The only good thing about working on my turbo van is access to the turbo. I can pull my kit off in 15 minutes. https://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/turbo/wicked-wheel-2-installation-on-a-hypermax-idi-van-turbo-kit-video/

    1989 Ford F-250 7.3 IDI 4X4 C6 to ZF swap

The GVOD is situated to the back of the T-case, so that shouldn't be a problem unless you change out your transfer case. What Dave said about the short output shaft and housing is correct. What kind of t-case do you have? That will determine what housing adapter you'll need for the manual tranny.

IDK. I had a friend who had the AAA insurance, and they offered to re-register his car for him. We sat in their office for an hour, and they still were still dealing with other customers. Finally I told him to just go to the DMV and use the kiosk. We drove 10 blocks to the DMV, used the...

The diesel inspection is visual. They don't have any fancy smog detectors like the gassers get. If you have blowing smoke, they will likely fail you.

'76 is for gassers. She's wrong and clearly not informed about the diesel cut-off. I know it really well, because my darn Jetta TDI is a '98, and I have to have to smogged every 2 years. I wish I had bought a '97 Jetta. My IDI is an '88, and I've never been required to have it smogged. I...
