3.55 gears vs 4.10s with gear vendors

That's interesting, 6.9's rev higher than 7.3's? Mine de-fuels pretty hard by the time it pulls through 3400. The 2-3 shift is so long while towing that I'd like to have a little more headroom at times. And just for fun, 80mph at 2500rpm is very smooth and easy with my setup:

So what did you do with your truck today?

After rebuilding my ZF-5 and BW 1356, I drove it all week to work! But, after 2 days the reverse landing lights I installed weren't working right away. By day 4 I had no reverse at all. After fiddling for over an hour with wires and my relay and grounds...I finally checked the reverse switch...

    7.3 knock

Boy that's a head scratcher for sure. How do you unplug an injector on an IDI? I found that my inspection plate on my ZF-5 was bent just right so that a part of the LuK flywheel would hit it while running. Dropping the plate immediately identified that issue, I bent it back a little and now...

Been chasing other issues, now is my injection pump dead?

Glad to hear it! +1 on timing the engine, though I don't know why it would change so drastically. But it helps a lot, especially with N/A and low performance. In my experience with a dying IP and heat soak, it never started and then stalled from heat soak. It was nearly impossible to start...

Been chasing other issues, now is my injection pump dead?

You're saying that you bypassed the factory filter, and now have no filter? I ask because: 1. That will ruin your IP over time and 2. Based on your symptoms this sounds like a clogged fuel filter, at least that's where I'd check. Do you have a pre-filter on or before the Holley? I had a little...

    Need Some Help

Or how weak your batteries are! I rejuvenated my group 65's a couple months ago and the GP's work in 10 seconds instead of 15, the starter rolls over way faster and so of course starts are was easier. Love it!

    Domain expiration

See if this works If that link doesn't work for you then click your screen name upper right, at drop down menu choose "Account Upgrades" and it's right there! I wish there was an auto-renew feature, as I'd be happy to do that so I don't forget.

    Domain expiration

I'm with @rreegg It was down for hours yesterday with "domain expired" as the reason. I refreshed 5x, dumped cookies and such, tried another browser and then tried my phone, all same thing. I don't have much in the way of solutions, except for whomever pays the bills to, uh, use a calendar...

    Need a IP Adjustment Tool

I agree, mine is mislabeled, and I have to put the clamp on "backwards" to get a decent reading.

He's ALIVE!! Funny, I was thinking about this rebuild the other day and wondering how it was going.

    Vacuum pump belt tension

It lists the same spec(1/2"-3/4") for all 4 belts, so don't worry too much about it. Though I personally would not have as much as 1/2" belt deflection on such a short belt, though for the vac pump maybe it doesn't matter. Thanks for sharing!

So what did you do with your truck today?

I drove my beloved TIDI to work all week! With a fresh ZF-5 and BW 1356 rebuild done in a mere 30-ish hours of working time... -Lame lots of lessons learned and it's *mostly* what I wanted. I think a few parts were worn more than spec but I got the synchros and bearings all new and shiny and...

So what did you do with your truck today?

"They" wouldn't let you wear a sweatshirt to vote?!? That's a funny shirt I don't care who you are. Did they make everyone with a Harris shirt take that off, too? I'm totally amazed you can't wear your team's jersey TO THE SUPERBOWL... cookoo (says the guy who's in WA, where the entire state...

3.55 gears vs 4.10s with gear vendors

This pretty much seals the deal to keep her 4.10. Besides it being way easier! You can see my mods in my signature, I used to have 4.10's and now 3.55's. But I also really enjoy these bigger tires(285 75 16) and the combo isn't great for towing. Max I have towed is about 7k and it's fine, but...

Project Thread: 1986 F250 “Farm Truck #1” Build Thread

That's hard to say, depends on the condition of the compressor housing and such. The easiest way is to get a new center housing rotating assembly(CHRA) and do the swap yourself, assuming the compressor housing isn't messed up. That's only if someone sells CHRA's for the Banks. It doesn't take...

    Need a IP Adjustment Tool

I too, have the Ferret. The biggest issue is to have a FULLY CHARGED 9V BATTERY. This has bit me so many times... It's really important to sand down the line, and the piezo clamp needs to be tighter than I'd like it to be. Takes some finger strength. These boys have you on the right track...

    Finally gonna rebuild my ZF-5!

It's ALIVE!! Finally got to take her for a test drive tonight. My very first shift into 2nd while moving chattered and that made me a little sad, but once the ol' ZF got a little warmer and I did some WOT runs getting onto the freeway it seemed buttery smooth. I'm pretty happy with it! One...

    Vacuum pump teardown

At least it's just I-beams and a bottle jack... putting a fancy name on it doesn't make it better. LOL If I get one someday I'll mod it to be electric over hydraulic cause that's awesome!

    IP Return Line Fitting

If you have an adjustable fuel pump you can overcome this, gaining 5cc throughout the rpm band and also cooling the pump more to boot. See TheWesPaul's thread here, halfway down the first post: DB2 Tuning Guide!

    Vacuum pump teardown

That was the vice I was -Drool -Drool -Drool over...isn't it in the background of the first pictures? Or you have TWO old Wiltons?! LOL Concerning using a vise as press: I may, or may not, have broken the round center bit that contains the threaded rod inside a pretty solid bench vice...

    Vacuum pump teardown

This is actually been discussed around here, and guys were taking them apart brand new and finding them basically empty. Fill them up with gear oil and send it! It's a good idea. Thanks for the autopsy! Mmmmmm Wilton vice... -Drool

Beware of crappy magnetic oil drain plugs

Wow he's Mr. Grumpy Pants geez. I've never seen an o-ring under an oil pan, personally. I also always called them copper washers, vs a gasket, but it's not a big deal either. That magnet would never go anywhere even if it wasn't glued in, so nothing to worry about. Even if it popped out, which...

    Finally gonna rebuild my ZF-5!

I've been able to use the Yeswelder helmet a few times now, and I'll tell you what: it's nice. Many moons ago I bought a cheap HF helmet and it was never good, but was $50 I think. The Yeswelder is literally 5x better viewing during welding, depth perception, true color(vs all green and yucky)...
