Project Thread: 89 F250 Franken Truck

I don't remember exact numbers because I haven't had a 6.9 to worry about but I believe I've heard 6.9 blocks are only safe/reliable to around 15-20psi max when studded. I've also heard of people running 15-20+ on stock 7.3 head bolts without issues. If you really want to make it bulletproof...

Project Thread: 89 F250 Franken Truck

Are you going for stock ish power or are you planning to build your spare engine for big boost? The 7.3 has larger head bolts and if you're planning on building for power you'll want to build a 7.3 not a 6.9. There's not enough meat in the 6.9 block to run the larger head studs. Not an issue if...

    A/C compressor install

As long as you don't hook anything up to the compressor you should be ok. Tape off the wires and leave the factory plugs in place. It would not be my first choice, but you should be ok. As long as the clutch is disengaged the pulley is just spinning on a bearing and nothing internal is turning...

6.0 glow plug harness-- no fusible link?

No way it could really, unless it failed in the on position. A relay is just a switch. Relays seem to fail "off" far more often.

Can't tell if this is a dmf or smf

Everyone seems to recommend the Luk clutch kit from what I've seen.

    Injectors turbo vs nonturbo

If injectors aren't showing stock on russrepair.com shoot him a PM here. His username is @typ4

Can't tell if this is a dmf or smf

Looks like there's no springs at all on the flywheel? That would mean it's a SMF. DMF would have springs on the flywheel.

"Tank" my 91 Crew Cab Dually

Cleaning up some old welds from whatever bumper was welded on in the past. Then the worn down spots in the frame were filled in and ground flush. Might not be perfect, but it's perfect enough for me. The guy who welded it has been welding longer than I've been alive.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I read that too fast.... I thought you said you changed your shirt 3-4 times this November! LOL

"Tank" my 91 Crew Cab Dually

In case anyone is curious, a bare crew cab 4x4 frame weights roughly #600

Aftermarket Fuel System Mismatch CDD and R&D

I wouldn't worry too much about mixing injectors and pumps as long as they're both from a reputable source, that's the most important thing is buying good parts in the first place.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Tank has been sitting in the same spot and hasn't started in a couple months. Fired right up like I parked it yesterday! Hooked up to the trailer so I can drag that frame into work now that it's 99.9% stripped. All that's left is the steering gearbox bolts, two leaf spring bolts, and a couple...

Brakes locked up but nothing looks wrong

Well I freed it up for now so we'll see if it comes back and I can try it then. I did that before on the front and fluid certainly does bleed, but no pressure behind it either.

Brakes locked up but nothing looks wrong

I replaced EVERYTHING. New master cylinder, hoses, hardlines, wheel cylinders, rubber hoses..... Deleted the ABS valve as well. Everything was filled with brand new DOT4 brake fluid. At this point the only thing I haven't changed is the front hard lines, driver's side caliper and hose, and the...

    E4OD question

Thank you very much. It's far more friction than I expected, however it also had sat all night so fluid could have drained. I tend to start worrying early when I have suspicions. Thanks for giving me some first hand peace of mind. It's been little things making me worried something might be...

Brakes locked up but nothing looks wrong

They were ground and lubed when they were replaced in September. Everything still seems to move freely with no binding.

    E4OD question

Actually I eliminated that possibility. I pulled the drum clear off the side I was trying to turn. It'll turn, but it takes some effort, and you're certainly not going to just spin it.

    E4OD question

Yeah I'm aware of that, but I've never had any vehicle this hard to move the wheel with it in neutral and that concerns me.

    E4OD question

While working on the rear brakes on my 90 F250 (Diego). I put the transmission in Neutral and noticed that the wheel did not want to turn. I could get it to turn but it felt similar to dragging brakes even though I know it wasn't. First thought was rear end but that seems free. Almost sounds...

Brakes locked up but nothing looks wrong

Wheel cylinders were replaced as was the master cylinder. The adjusters are on the correct side, and everything was put back the way it was before. Proportioning valve was disassembled and cleaned before putting it on the new master cylinder. Honestly the only thing I can think is either they...

Brakes locked up but nothing looks wrong

On today's episode of what now you needy pig..... I replaced the entire brake system on Diego a few weeks ago and then a front caliper seized. Fixed that and now I just had a rear brake lock up.... Everything looks perfectly fine. Any ideas? Maybe I just had them slightly too tight but it's...

    Jesus Freak's WMO IP thread

I thought I read about some fiber ring in the pumps that wore out. If I'm recalling correctly it may have been a design change at some point. Really don't remember but that may help guide your research?

Can I use Fuel Oil in a 6.9?

From what I've read, if they dip it they'll know it's not ATF. Something about the specific chemical makeup of the dye, not just the color. I don't know if it's true or not, but it's worth knowing so they don't "catch you lying". That being said... I've been driving for almost 15 years...
