Leking fuel at the rear tank

I'm gonna pull my bed off one of these days and try to sort mine out. I had FSV issues just after I got the truck so, in a rush, I had it towed and had the guy bypass all of that and I've just been running direct from the front tank since then. The fuel gauge doesn't work so I fill up @ 100...

Fuel doesn't stay waiting at the injectors?

I'm sure finding the source of a minor drain back is near impossible since I've read about so many here pulling their hair out trying to find major leaks. I guess just I'll put this minor issue out of my mind. :)

Fuel doesn't stay waiting at the injectors?

I have held it longer and it'll jump a bit but doesn't quite start. Seems like by the time the fuel gets up to pressure the glow plugs might have cooled off? I guess my new routine will be to turn it over for a few seconds to get the fuel pressurized at the injectors before wasting battery on...

Fuel doesn't stay waiting at the injectors?

I usually hold my manual glow plug button for 6-8 seconds and then try starting for 3 seconds. Sometimes it starts, more often I have to repeat and then it starts. Tonight, at 29 deg. and the block heater not having been plugged in, I decided to not use the glow button for the 1st starting...

7.3 IDI Cranking but not catching.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned that screen since I think I also read that they are very rarely the problem. I suppose your fuel filter would have had to fail catastrophically for anything much to get to the screen.

And another thought...I think I remember reading about a screen on the inlet of the IP. It would be a ***** to check but something to add to the things that will keep you awake tonight thinking about. ;-)

7.3 IDI Cranking but not catching.

If you want to rule out the fuel as the problem then have it draw from a jug of known-good fuel. Just another thought...does fuel coming out the Schrader valve confirm that fuel is getting past the filter and to the IP? I don't know the answer so I would be tempted to throw a new filter on and...

    New steering gear stiff?

The 2 guys at the shop, working with my truck on a lift, said it wasn't fun. 5 hrs. labor listed on my bill + $6 for fluid. Seems like my $350 was well spent vs trying to do it myself on my garage floor in 24 degree temps.

    I didn't get that memo. :-(

    New steering gear stiff?

I dunno. I never even took it out of the box. By the weight of the box I decided that I wasn't man enough to install it so I had a local shop do it. They did say that it had Ford markings on it so I assume it hasn't been changed. I'll take a look at it in the daylight tomorrow.

    New R&D injectors

I wasn't suggesting that the injectors were at fault. I was suggesting that a worn out pump might not be up to the task of supplying new injectors and that may be why it's recommended to replace both at the same time. It may be anecdotal that my pump started acting up when warm after I replaced...

    New steering gear stiff?

I had a lower seal leaking so I bit the bullet and bought a Red Head box to replace the original. It's all good except it takes a bit more effort to steer. Not so much that it's annoying, but it's noticeable. Is there normally a break in period after which things will move easier or is my pump...

Holley Red are garbage, what else quickly?

Just an FYI on priming... I carry a Mityvac and a valve core removal tool (cap). Works great for sucking fuel up to the Schrader valve at the fuel filter head. I don't think it causes any harm to my mechanical lift pump? Sorry I'm no help with the electric pump...

    New R&D injectors

Plan on getting one in the near future, though. My pump started failing soon after installing new injectors (due to more demand on the pump?) My symptoms were no start with a warm engine. Had to cool the pump down (gently) to get it started.

I wonder if a Chimfex would work. https://www.edarley.com/chimfex/

Our beloved FL1995 oil filter is no longer cheap at Walmart

Keep checking Ebay. I got lucky last year and got a case of P559127 for $78.06 total, shipped. ($6.50 ea.)

Plug block heater into "shore power"?

The power strip has 15' cord that will reach.

I bought a case of P559127. I haven't installed any yet. Donaldson's chart says they fit.

This one has tan colored leather. The glass headlight lenses are very nice to have. The USA-mandated bumpers are hideous. The designers at Benz must have been cringing when having to look at those.

Wiring harness and thinking about selling

Yup and yup. It's a 280SE (gray market) and the climate control started going wonky a few years ago. I haven't looked into it at all since I don't drive it in the winter and I can live without AC here. I can get some heat when needed.

I only plug it in if I'm going to need the truck.

Plug block heater into "shore power"?

Thanks. But I don't even have a camper. The previous owner of my house did. I've had no use for it until now. The truck is going to start getting parked outside under a canopy. It takes up too much space (20') in my garage.

Plug block heater into "shore power"?

Yeah. I guess I'll grab these two from HF. The power strip will be kinda clunky hanging in front of my grill but I guess that's the easiest way to get a 15A breaker in the mix. Or I could try to get someone to change the 30 in the panel to a 15. I don't like going in there.
