My guy charged me for 3 hours. I think he's a straight-shooter and trust him. Let me know if you think he's blowing smoke up my rear. He did it on their 1st day back to work. I should have told him that I wasn't in a rush for it. I was just glad I didn't have to do it in my cold garage (or on...
No kidding? Oh well. Pete's a good ol' boy. I don't mind sending some work and $ his way once in a while. He needs a few $ to keep his old Harleys running. And his 80 y.o. self.
Well, I've been putting the screws to her on the hills around here and at every stop sign. And I left today on a 4 1/2 hour trip that would give her a good workout (and higher RPMs) and maybe clean out some coke. All was well for an hour or so. And I've noticed less smoke (not that it was bad...
I'll be running Delvac for a while. A local liquidator store was selling gallons for $8.99
I bought 18 gallons. Hopefully I get my engine sorted before I run out.
I had a quart of Liquid Moly Engine Restore kicking around so I threw that in with the 2 quarts of oil needed today and gave it hell...
Yup. Me too.
Right after we got married (1990) I bought a 1978 F-100 (351 Windsor, 2 barrel) and we loaded it with everything we owned plus towed her Toyota Supra on a dolly behind it from MA to OR.
We made it fine (with a few hiccups) but I don't think she'd be into playing that game again. lol...
Yeah. I was ok with adding a quart per tank. I'm just flustered with the sudden change to needing a LOT more oil.
I guess I'll start throwing snake oils in there while trying to work her harder and hope for the best.
I've got some big hills here. I will hammer up those from now on and see if she comes around.
I just don't understand how I lost 3-4 quarts of oil "out of the blue" with no warning. Maybe the long warmup from single-digit temperatures?
Maybe I wasn't a good candidate for buying this diesel. I only bought it because I wanted old and simple. The only "work" it gets is putting my boat in the water in the spring and hauling it out in the fall. Other than that it's mostly used for weekly dump runs, Home Depot runs, and trips to the...
Hmmm. I've had my Mityvac (the cheap plastic one) for many years and lots of use. And now I keep it with my IDI in case I run out of fuel. Then I can attach it to the Shrader valve at the fuel filter (after removing the valve core) and prime fuel the system.
How do you mean "run it hard"? High load or high RPMs?
I have some big hills here that I could make a bunch of runs up. Or I could drive around in 2nd gear of my C6 auto. for a while (I'm not near a highway where I can get above 60 mph).
I haven't done anything different than I have for the past 3 years. Delvac 1300 Super 15w-40 synth. blend.
It's never been more than a quart low and I check it at every fill up. The dipstick was dry and adding 2 quarts barely got it to show on the dipstick (after driving 15 miles with the added...
1987 6.9 n/a. I've always (for the 3 years I've had it) had to add a quart every tank or so. No biggie as I don't drive much and usually not far from home. And this is the oilburners forum, right?
Saturday I had to go to the dump. I checked the oil. The dipstick was bone dry. I've seen...
I bought a RedHead about a year ago and had it installed. It has had a slight drip since day one. I have to add fluid every few weeks. I wish I knew about BlueHead when buying.
I did that back when the key start stopped working. Pushing the rod further didn't help so I replaced the contacts "board" that the rod moves. Still no start. So I added a push-button start. And that worked fine.
Now the key won't even turn the power on (for starting or playing the radio or...
Well...sunuvabitch.
After all of these years I just found out that I have a tilt column. I'd never seen one that didn't have it's own lever.
Thank you for showing me the light.
I guess that changes things. I guess I need to go read all of the tilt column problem threads to figure out a plan to...
2 years ago my key turn stopped working to trip the starter. I bought the sliding contacts part that goes in the column and installed it but couldn't get it working. So I, grudgingly, installed a manual starter button under the dash and then all was well. Even yesterday.
Tonight I turned the key...
