    Seatbelt retracter cover removal

I haven't been able to get past removing the screws. I don't know what's holding the panels on at this point but there doesn't seem to be any give anywhere. I don't think the screws are even needed.

    Seatbelt retracter cover removal

I feel like an idiot because I can't figure out how to remove the plastic covering to replace my driver's seatbelt retracter. I've got all of the screws out of that piece and the one above it but can't figure out where and which way to get the removal started. I'm afraid of breaking my...

    Effect of timing adjustment?

I have a pulse timing meter. I got a pump and injectors from Russ (Grhis) about 2 years ago. I timed it to @ 8. I can't get much more than 11 mpg unloaded (not that it matters much because I don't drive much). I get some smoke at startup and for the 1st mile or so. Would Russ have left me to...

Dunno. I went to their website and went to Ford /Truck and the years only go to 1986.

    Seatbelt Options

SB+ only goes to 1986 and I have a 1987. SBP, and the others listed above, seem to just offer rebuilds? I was hoping to just buy something that I could replace mine with.

    Seatbelt Options

Mine (driver's side) is fully extended and won't retract. It just happened recently. The passenger side seems to work fine. On that one I noticed that if the door button is pushed in (or the door is closed) there's a ratcheting sound when moving the belt. No sound when the door is open. Driver's...

Digging up an old thread because I have the same issue and can't find any info.

"Prime" the fuel system before starting?

6-8 seconds of glow seems to work fine on mine. I've held it longer and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

"Prime" the fuel system before starting?

I put a Powermaster starter in last year. It is fantastic. I don't think it turns slower when cold but maybe? Injector leak down sounds plausible. I'd consider sending them back to Russ for testing but, sadly, he is no longer with us. Could an overnight tranny fluid treatment help with that or...

WANT TO TRY A LIL BUDDY HEATER TO WARM ENGINE

If you're set on using a portable heater then maybe a diesel-powered heater? The heater would be next to the truck and the heat blows through a duct that you'd feed into the engine bay. Much safer than an open flame under your engine. You could probably find other camping uses for it also...

"Prime" the fuel system before starting?

Yeah. I figured a little drain back or something like that. Thanks. It doesn't matter if it's 0 deg. or 95 deg. and it doesn't matter if it sits for a day or a week. It always seems to need a couple seconds of cranking to "prime" it before the actual attempt at starting. Then it starts almost...

1991 7.3 idi injectors where do I get them?

Yup. I replaced the injectors and hoped to put off buying a pump because it seemed fine. My pump started failing within a week or two. Don't skimp on the pump either. Get it from one of the 2 companies listed above or you'll wish you had (and then probably will be buying from them anyway in the...

"Prime" the fuel system before starting?

This may be nitpicking, and it's really no big deal, but I'm curious. When starting from sitting overnight or even a week it never starts on the 1st try. But it always starts on the 2nd try. My normal would be to hold the glow plugs on for 6-8 seconds. Pedal to the floor. Crank for 3-5 seconds...

30 degree cold start (opinions wanted)

Yup. I press it to the floor to activate the cold start. Then I hold my glow plugs button for 7-8 seconds. Then I hold it to the floor and crank until the engine fires. Mine cold starts pretty quickly (1-3 seconds) even in single digit temps. After the engine starts to warm up (4 minutes?) the...

California ( and others ), RV's, and more laws...

No emissions testing here (so far). How about the idiots in MA? They want to be just like the idiots in CA. "New state regs force sales of electric trucks that ‘do not exist’"...

30 degree cold start (opinions wanted)

My throttle linkage trips a lever/switch when I push it to the floor.

30 degree cold start (opinions wanted)

I believe that to activate the start/high idle mode you push the fuel pedal to the floor. At least that's how it is on my '87.

    7.3 idi problem

There's been some similar DIYs posted here. I need to decide if that's the route I want to go or try to fix my OEM valve or take a chance on the available repacements.

    7.3 idi problem

Glad you found the culprit. I'd love to be able to get at the fuel that's in my (full) rear tank. I haven't heard of any available tank selector valves that are worth the time and money to install. And I don't want to give up my spare tire to a single rear tank. ;-(

    7.3 idi problem

Don't try to purge the water separator. If it wasn't leaking before then it likely will if you mess with it. Bypass it. At least until you isolate your problem. My bet is on the fuel tank selector. That was my problem. I've been running on just the front tank since then. I gotta deal with that...

Is the fuel tank selector valve still connected? Is there a water separator present?

    7.3 idi problem

Tank selector valve? These are notorious for failing. Water separator? Mine is near the brake booster. Not sure if your truck came with one. They are known to fail/leak. Shower head(s)? These are the fuel pickup ends in the tanks. They can fall apart, or off, and you'll be sucking air if your...

    7.3 idi problem

Temps. here were in the teens all week. I didn't bother plugging in my block heater (I don't know if it even works). My truck (6.9 N/A) starts just as easily as it does in summer. 7-8 seconds of glow then almost instant vroom. YMMV. I do want to look into my block heater as I think it may help...

There's your problem. You need to press the diesel pedal. ;-)
