    Replacement water separator idea

Very helpful. Thank you. Pics would be great. Also, what # is the actual filter you are using? I'm planning to use the Racor S3204P. Hoping it's short enough. And your parts list suggests that you are using all 4 ports on the head. Could you let me (us) know what lines to connect where? And...

    i.p. tech question

Dang. I haven't been able to get more than 13 mpg out of my '87 with no load on it. :-( Maybe I need to turn my fuel down some more and mess with the timing some more.

    Replacement water separator idea

I've read a lot about filters today. The manufacturers (mostly) list the specs. The head I bought has 1-14 threads that the filter spins onto. Then you need to look at the diameter. Then you need to look at the GPH and filter fineness (microns). Then the height (if it matters to your location)...

    Replacement water separator idea

I'm guessing you mounted yours somewhere other than the stock location? It's starting to look like it may be tough to find a filter short enough to fit the stock location. I'm not giving up. There's just so many variations in Racor's catalog. What is the min. GPH I should be looking at for a 6.9...

    Replacement water separator idea

I was tempted to order the same one that you did but the filter looks too tall to fit where the OEM one is. I'm hoping to find a shorter filter. I can find some on Ebay that look like they'd work but they all seem to be Chinese copies. And the dealers for real Racor seller's websites really suck...

    Replacement water separator idea

Looks like it can use a filter with a drain or not as long as it's 1-14 thread and it's not too tall for the location? I'll be looking for one with a clear bowl and a drain. I guess 10 micron seems to be the consensus here? I also noticed that some filters have a sensor port so I wonder if I can...

    Replacement water separator idea

And I believe it's not tied to an expensive filter. "You can use Racor S3202 listed below and if you do not want to use the clear bowl you can use Wix 33118 21 Micron, Purolator PER96, Baldwin BF580, BF5813, Donaldson P556915 25 Micron, or Fram P1146 replacement elements."

    Replacement water separator idea

I ordered one of these filter heads from Ebay. I'm hoping to mount it where my stock one is (on the firewall). I guess it's a China copy of a Racor 490R10. If it fits well I'll see how long it lasts and if it's junk then at least I'll know that the Racor will work here and then I'll spend the $...

    Timing Probe Fitment Problem

I put mine much closer to the injector. Just above the nut.

    Cheap diesel fuel ok?

It's $5.79 if I go west. It's $5.39 if I go east. And 5.09 if I go a bit more east to the Cumberland Farms mentioned in my OP.

    Timing Probe Fitment Problem

How deep is the probe set? I'd mess with that if you're confident with everything else. I assume you're groove is clean.

    Timing Probe Fitment Problem

I just looked at it. Looks correct. The forked terminal in the springy thingy.

    Timing Probe Fitment Problem

I kinda remember having that happen. (it's been a while) The sequence of things seemed to matter. Make the connections. Connect the battery. Wait until things seem "settled". Then start the engine. If it didn't seem right then it was a connection problem. Or the probe depth. Or a clean groove to...

    Diesel Rx Glow plugs

I've tried jumping mine with a booster, another vehicle, and a 120v charger that has a START button. None of them seemed to do anything. I had to recharge the batteries. They are both fairly new Motorcraft and in good condition. This was after trying to start in -15F after forgetting to plug in...

    Cheap diesel fuel ok?

Is that the case? Cheaper = more bio mixed?

    Cheap diesel fuel ok?

It's a very common chain store in New England. And it's in a busy area. And their prices are the cheapest around. Which should mean they move a lot of fuel so it should be "fresh"? That was my theory anyway. But the question remains about the original quality of the fuel when they receive it...

    Cheap diesel fuel ok?

The cheapest diesel fuel around here is at a convenience store called Cumberland Farms. It's like $0.30/gal. cheaper. I have heard people say that their gasoline is crappy and they don't buy it unless they have to, fwiw. Would you buy here or pay more for Shell, Citgo, etc.? Also, I've been...

Help Troubleshooting - Lope / Surge at Start

And that's the beautiful thing about these engines. Of course, you still need a way to heat the glow plugs and turn the engine over to start it. But, after that, good to go on 1 wire.

    Timing Probe Fitment Problem

Looks and seems fine. I didn't know what else to do so I tried it. I figured it wouldn't take much off, if any. It doesn't look like it took anything off it. I kept the spring things so I guess it stays just flush. You should probably start with a business card or 2 and see if you get a reading...

    Timing Probe Fitment Problem

I messed with both "drilling" out the bracket (that didn't seem to accomplish much) and sanding down the probe. I sanded above and below the springs and finally got a good fit and have used it successfully about 15? times since then and I think? I've got my timing in a good spot. And I can get...

    Primer pump/bulb?

My fuel gauge doesn't work and I guess my tank selector was a problem so my truck is only running off the front tank. And I don't know the condition of that showerhead so I don't drive more than 100 mi. before fueling. But one of these days, before I can deal with my tanks and selector, I may...

    Fuel filter results

I did not know that. Holy crap! Mine is still there! I had assumed it would be in an obvious place and I'd see a glass bowl to see when it needed draining. I hadn't seen anything like that so I assumed that it had been disposed of. Ford tucked it in there tight! And no glass bowl (that I could...
