    93 IDI over fueling?

The next time I need to try and talk over someone's head or just confuse them I'm gonna' talk about "windage driven oil carryover". :Thumbs Up

    7.3 CA smog equipment

A very small town I once lived in had cars with no license plates. Of course there were no stoplights in that town either, and the law only showed up Fri-Sun to write some speeding tickets so it was easy to steer clear of trouble.

    7.3 CA smog equipment

If the '81 squarebody was a gasser then you are in for a lot of fun trying to register it as a diesel. I would not recommend doing this unless you enjoy headaches and government red tape. I would bet the state is in no way obligated to honor an engine swap in general. and especially one that...

Could really use some good ideas

I've read enough editions of "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader" that I'm afraid I've taken up a lot of useful space with nonsense and BS, but ya' gotta' do something while you're sittin' there.

Could really use some good ideas

Oh c'mon, his name is Cliff Clavin and his pearls of wisdom are timeless. "Even if the North American Elk could speak it could not pronounce the word 'lasagna' due to the shape if its esophagus."

    Trouble Bleeding Brake Lines

Do you know of a different part or DIY solution for the tiny catch jar on the mityvac? Sometimes it's necessary to suck a lot of fluid through the lines and the itty-bitty catch jar seems to fill up way too fast.

    Trouble Bleeding Brake Lines

Those power bleeders have been known to malfunction and spray brake fluid all over nice painted surfaces--not common but certainly possible. I know of one mechanic who was using a power bleeder at work and something "gave" and brake fluid went all over the customer's car requiring a very...

Banks Sidewinder install and high boost

6.9 has smaller head bolts than the 7.3 so be careful with that boost. Mine maxes out at 10 and has pretty good power.

    Trouble Bleeding Brake Lines

I've never had a helper for bleeding brakes and just used the cheap and simple DIY one man brake bleeder: This works for me everytime.

Best/good source for mixed plastic hose return lines

Well if you are just talking about the return line on top of the engine then regular fuel hose is fine. I just received an order of Cohline 7x12 fuel hose for return lines. 7x12 metric hose is the original spec that the return line caps are designed for, and this is why 1/4 can be so...

89 7.3 do with transmission issue

An OBD1 code reader would be a place to start. No PCM on an '89 but there is a transmission control module/unit behind the driver side kick panel. The plug is on the engine side of the firewall--tall and thin plug with a single hex bolt holding it in place. Verify those wires are not chewed...

    Still smoke issue

Retarded timing could make it smoke more. I've played with the timing and even when it was a bit too retarded the engine still started easily. The injection pump could be turned up too much. An injector may be hanging open. I've had an issue where an injector was hanging open and it would...

    Na turbo install

With the wastegated Banks Sidewinder the GP harness runs under the turbo at the back of the engine but Banks supplies a heat shield that goes over the GP harness and throttle cable. Just one opinion here, but if you have everything apart it might be a good time to make a new harness if the...

    1991 7.3 starter ?

I've had starters with quite a bit of oil dripped over them but they kept on going. You really need to check the battery cables for corrosion or physical damage. And of course the batteries need to be healthy, as in holding a minimum charge of 12.6 volts. I'd check the battery voltage first...

Tired IP or Possible Retarded Timing?

You should at least temporarily add a fuel pressure gauge so you know what pressure you're actually running. I had a brief online exchange with Justin from R&D IDI about fuel pressure at the IP inlet and too much is too much. He related an instance where he was on the dyno and backed the...

IDI return line caps - aluminum 6061!

After an emergency roadside fix I've run sections of return line without clamps on plastic caps and no leaks or air intrusion. I kept forgetting to add the clamps later because it just worked. Maybe the slightly small diameter of 1/4 vs 7mm makes all the difference?

When Should An EOD4 Shift Into OD

Yes dually trucks generally have the smaller tires but I'm fairly certain the OP's truck does not.

When Should An EOD4 Shift Into OD

I only drive fast on long trips. For every 100 miles driving 75mph instead of 55mph there is a 30 minute difference. So even a relatively short 300 mile drive would take an extra 90 minutes and that is not a negligible amount of time. Yes it is stupid to speed on an 8 mile trip to the grocery...

    Turning up fuel screw

2 flats is a lot more fuel. Without a gauge you are gambling every time you really open the throttle for an extended period. EGT gauges are much cheaper and easier to install than R&R-ing an engine. I don't have the same turbo as you but I found 1-1.5 flats to be plenty of extra fuel for a...

When Should An EOD4 Shift Into OD

Stock tire should be a 235/85/16 which is 31.5 I was assuming the OP's truck was 4x4 and every 4x4 F250/F350 I've seen had a 235/85/16, but I could be wrong. Driving at 55mph is okay sometimes but on a long highway run it sure is nice to hit 75 or 80 without bumping up against the governor. I...

When Should An EOD4 Shift Into OD

Stock tire should be a 235/85/16 which is 31.5" On an N/A truck with 4.10s I went from a stock 31.5 to 33 and it made a noticeable difference, but mostly on hills. I do recall the late Towcat writing in a post that the key to N/A 6.9/7.3 IDIs was in the axle gearing and that numerically higher...

When Should An EOD4 Shift Into OD

Has your speedo been re-calibrated for the larger tires? What year truck? Before '92 you have to change a gear connected to the VSS--on a 4x4 it's on the driver side of the t-case, not sure about 2wd. Those RPMs don't quite add up--3.55 with 35" tires and 1.00:1 ratio in 3rd gear equals 1534...
