    Steering gear seal.

I actually just did my pitman arm seal/sector shaft. It was a huge mess because I left the box in the truck. Pulled the pitman arm off. I pulled the snap ring out and started the truck and used it's own hydraulic pressure to blow out the seal/spacer. It dumped fluid everywhere BUT everything...

Can I use Fuel Oil in a 6.9?

Just as a safety net maybe carry a couple used ATF jugs and Marvel Mystery oil and if they give you trouble just say you dumped a bunch of old ATF and MMO to help lube your injection pump...

Ate 2 sets of gps in a month or so

My 87 6.9 also has the Wavy controller and bullet style glow plugs. I feel like for AZ running the glow plugs manually for 10 seconds might be excessive. Mine usually cycle for about 3-5 max. Mind you it just started to be "cool" here (80 degrees) so it's possible the cycle time will increase...

    1989 S1600 x Uhaul truck 7.3 IDI Fuel Mileage

Original post says it's a 5 speed. My gut says it would be ZF5 but on a chassis that big and depending on year it might have something different like a spicer 5 speed like in this S1600 video... If he's running a diff similar to the one is this video I can see why getting decent mileage is a...

    1989 S1600 x Uhaul truck 7.3 IDI Fuel Mileage

I agree. Check the tire pressure and keep it around 55 and you might see some improvement. Not sure what gears those box trucks had but I bet they are deep.

    Thoughts on Performance upgrades/direction/Cummins?

I was in a similar situation. I originally wanted to do a 4x4 cummins in my 68 bumpside but got scared away by the amount of money people wanted and time it was going to take to make it work good and look good. Everyone close to me wanted 4-5k for a 12v and transmission (NV4500) and they were...

Why Diesel Prices Are Set To Soar

I don't believe it either unless you live in an super flat state with no stops for miles. The winning combo would be factory E-rated tires maxed out, 6.9NA, ZF5, 2WD, 3.55 gears, single cab, unloaded, with a perfect fuel system, perfect timing, perfect alignment, new air filter, greased...

Totally. I tried doing that the other day but got lost.

Can you guys tell me what these wires are for?

Thanks @Nero. I had no idea they came with factory trailer brake wiring! You learn something new everyday.

Is there any mechanical difference between 158 and 175 hp?

I had another idea while watching Tube videos. What happens when you press the advance arm on the side of the injection pump when running cold? Does the motor idle down?

Is there any mechanical difference between 158 and 175 hp?

Judging from that start and idle it sounds good to me. I'd definitely do a compression test. I paid like $50 on amazon for a diesel compression tester. Verified with my air compressor that it would accurately read 150 psi on a few gauges to make sure it was close. Not sure if you come...

    Vehicle history reports

I was hoping for something similar. Maybe see if a shop put another motor in at some time. Who knows what will pop up? Did you used CarFax @Weldingman?

    Vehicle history reports

Hey guys! Lot's of us on here have ancient relics that have been passed around more than a joint at a Grateful Dead concert. I'm wondering if anyone here has access to vehicle history reports like CARFAX or something similar to run vins. Or possibly point me in a direction of something online...

    Gauges Guidance

Do these stay powered when the truck is off? That's a great idea! I've seen some with thermometers as well.

Is there any mechanical difference between 158 and 175 hp?

Man If you've got all those new parts, big open exhaust, and a decent fuel system it shouldn't be pathetic. What do you compression numbers look like? Also how big is the truck? I see in your sig it's an identical truck to mine.

Is there any mechanical difference between 158 and 175 hp?

When I ran my truck a 8 degrees it was ok but It really likes 9.5 degrees. It's an NA 6.9. If the air filter is nice and new it's not outlandish to think the exhaust is plugged up if it's the original muffler. Then again my truck has pretty good compression 400-430+ psi and it's still pretty...

Cracked T19 belhousing and popping out of first...ZF5 or fix?

I had no idea it was even broken until it made a funny noise like a single tick sound every time it was pressed. I looked one day and was like OH SH**. Clutch took more force to press than usual but it wasn't terrible. This was right after I bled/flushed the clutch slave and clutch master...

86 6.9 keep leaking out the left rear injector return

Absolutely a huge upgrade for sure. I guess what I'm saying is in my case my truck has many MANY other issues that require funds so i'm frugal when it comes to the big ticket upgrade items.

86 6.9 keep leaking out the left rear injector return

I suppose the heat gets to them like all plastic over time. I just keep spares with me when I go on long road trips just incase. I've been very lucky to say the least with my 600 mile road trips.
