    ‘86 6.9idi smoke

That is too low. You want 4-7psi across all rpm range.

If you wanted to rebuild a 7.3 idi, increase it's performance w/o a turbo, what would you do?

Turbo isn't just for speed, it is also for power. If you have your mind set on no turbo, the stock idi is still pretty good as a tractor in its stock form. Turbo bolt on kit is easy and you can find used ones for good prices. To replace injectors or a cam you'll easily be $400 or more into it...

    Maxtow gauges

A wastegate is an overboost protection device. Modifying yours by increasing the spring weight is a valid way of increasing boost, but still has the overboost protection there. Removing the wastegate or locking it shut essentially turns the turbo into a fixed turbo, with "unlimited" boost potential.

What would I do? Turbo. Any particular reason you don't want one?

    Maxtow gauges

I deleted the wastegate on my 093 setup. With a 90cc pump and stock injectors, I could get 16psi, with Justin's stage 1's I can push 18psi. EGT's climb easily, but are manageable. I am intercooled.

    1983 6.9

Making' us feel old  Compression should be the same. Just to throw my 2¢ out there, my 7.3 is out of a 1988 and running just fine, completely stock and original bottom end, only recently did I do head work and a few other goodies for more ponies. You'd probably be fine on just sending the...

Blue Top or Red Top steering gear?

I don't know how much truth there is to it, but I heard there was some sort of dispute with the techs from red top and the owner, and they all left to go make blue top instead.

    E350 7.3 idi engine replacement

I'm impressed you got the IP gear cover off with the IP still in place. Curious how well the fuel system will work. I'm one of few who prefer dual tanks but would like to someday go to a reliable e-fuel setup.

IDI return line caps - aluminum 6061!

I have liked them so far. A bit hard to get past a few o rings, did cut a few and have to redo later... Once the engine is running.

I need help routing this wiring harness.

Should be 2 p clamps and the ip gear housing bolts should have studs for said p clamps. Kind of goes over the top of the pump, but behind the gear housing itself. Least thats how my dad's 94 f250 stock turbo went.

Check the service ports for leaks with soapy water. Also look for oily/dirty areas on the lines for possible leak points.

    Moose Diesel Poor Customer Sevice?

I may be wrong, but I thought his kids were running it? Or maybe I'm thinking DFIS in Portland. None the less, still quality work, I installed a baby moose in my MIL's truck a few years ago and it works perfectly.

    Advice On 6.9 Overhaul

As a Cummins employee, I agree. Doesn't help they made the 6.9 for what... Two years, then made the 7.3 for SEVEN. Still plenty of 7.3 parts out there, and lots of support.

    7.3idi turbo vs 7.3idi

I have a turbo block and a N/A block currrently, the only thing I saw different was the thread size for the oil pressure sending unit drilled at the back of the block. One was 1/8 NPT, one was 1/4 NPT. Past that, I didn't see any other differences between them.
