    Hard brake pedal

brakes have been great after rebuild, parking brake seems to hold well after not many clicks. no leaks and solid consistent brake feel. finally able to diagnose the parking brake and rabs lights being on and it's code 4 - RABS valve switch closed or open dump valve. have done some reading and...

since they're just bicycles a cheap/easy option could be the rear mount units but on the hood and bumper. have seen it a few times. would rather have a receiver but..

So what did you do with your truck today?

Think I'm only about 5500 lbs unloaded which surprised me as well! looking super clean though Edit: just happen to be renting a trailer and the uhaul website has this truck curbweight as 5150lb

So what did you do with your truck today?

What's that long skinny bar in the front of the first photo, with the two holes on the right side. Breaker bar? Never had a hard topo chico but this has me considering trying one

    Domain expiration

Glad the site is back up, hopefully it won't be down for an extended time until the domain presumably is up for renewal again this time next year... Had me worried it'd be down for good and that would be sad. Too much good information on this site to let it evaporate. Is there a way to back...

    Vacuum pump belt tension

Is the air compressor the vacuum pump? Thanks this is helpful, i've used tension gauges before for marine rigging and they definitely work. I've seen tension by deflection numbers provided in a lot of engine shop manuals though so this is exactly what i was looking for.

    Vacuum pump belt tension

Anyone have a general rule for how tight the vacuum pump belt should be? It was was a bit loose so tightened it up a bit but worried it's too tight - I can push it in about 1/4"-3/8" which seems about right but it seems pretty tight. I have a ford manual but it states like ft/lbs or something...

    Vacuum pump teardown

I'll sometimes check out the harbor freight dumpster area for things that are tossed or returned. Recently saw one of their vices out there, about this size, and the casting was cracked solidly in two across the main body. sort of curious what it was being used for - anyway hope this works out...

Beware of crappy magnetic oil drain plugs

Always try to get the magnetic tipped ones but somehow they're never in stock - or maybe i always decide to not spend the extra couple dollars at the last minute don't remember. the last drain plug i bought was for the tdi and it came with damaged threads and was unusable

    1988 E350 7.3 Hypermax

Hey @Ballalu welcome and awesome rig you got there. I also got an '88 but it's N/A - lots of great vehicles in eastern WA/western ID area in my opinion. Sounds like an exciting trip even if there's some work to do. Nothing technical to add on this one and many others are more knowledgable but...

    Summit Radiator?

What do you replace it with? Recently did a coolant change and using the plastic plug is pretty slow to drain unless it squirts everywhere like you said

    Summit Radiator?

understandable you’d return the aluminum if it was supposed to be copper brass. Any reason you don’t want aluminium otherwise? If it’s just a small leak in the existing it possible to have it repaired or sealed up? Sorry it doesn’t answer the original Q, most folks including myself replace with...

    Transfer Case Lube (1988)

Didn't know there's a filter for the tcase - is it a metal mesh or similar? Here's another oilburner thread on the same topic for precedence, am assuming the 89 and 88 have the same tcase https://www.oilburners.net/threads/fluid-type-in-1989-zf5-and-transfer-case-lubricant.90335/

So what did you do with your truck today?

Odometer has been at 99xxx lately and was looking forward to seeing the rollover. 9994x a few days ago and totally forgot about things haha, at 00171 today. think it's 200171 but whatever. trucks been driving great, recent rear brake job has the brakes feeling amazing - and no dash lights. need...

Wear on brake shoe due to parking brake lever

Nice thanks @Cubey and @ROCK HARVEY had half a mind to weld them up a bit but didn't go through on it yet, nice to see some precedence on that. crazy this is an established issue but not surprised too. fudge though too

Wear on brake shoe due to parking brake lever

The exisiting shoes and hardware are being replaced, believe the existing shoes to be from 2018. The shoe surface is in good shape but the contact point with the parking brake cam is worn out and mashed on the rear shoe - see pic. Anyone see this before? Is it common and just due to cheap metal...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Slightly surprised you’re not getting double digit mpg with the slide in - used to get about 15 hwy with mine and 11 in the city. Think it’s mostly weight rather than aero drag?

    She just... died....

had a rough start once and happened to notice the fuel filter was a bit loose and leaking slightly. but agree with others it sounds fuel related
