Anyone have a general rule for how tight the vacuum pump belt should be? It was was a bit loose so tightened it up a bit but worried it's too tight - I can push it in about 1/4"-3/8" which seems about right but it seems pretty tight.

I have a ford manual but it states like ft/lbs or something and not sure how to measure that.

Thanks yall

Here’s the page on v belt tension from the service manual I have:

Is the air compressor the vacuum pump? Thanks this is helpful, i've used tension gauges before for marine rigging and they definitely work. I've seen tension by deflection numbers provided in a lot of engine shop manuals though so this is exactly what i was looking for.

The service manual I have is from International not Ford, so I guess it makes sense that they list an air compressor for air brakes rather than a vacuum pump for vacuum-assist brakes. I didn’t notice that, and I can’t say for sure that the belt deflection would be the same on the vacuum pump. Does anyone have the spec from Ford?

It lists the same spec(1/2"-3/4") for all 4 belts, so don't worry too much about it. Though I personally would not have as much as 1/2" belt deflection on such a short belt, though for the vac pump maybe it doesn't matter.

Thanks for sharing!
