    Unless your IP gear is molested, I can tell by the way the pump is sitting that you are in no danger. Timing is everything though for maximum power and economy. It's a best practice to check it every 25,000 miles, so get the tools and learn how to use them.

    If you have loose metal in the engine, it is or will be toast. Pull a valve cover and see if it is all over the insides.

    Did this thing sit for a long time? Stuck plungers are going to require a lot of cranking speed to overcome, if that's what is going on. A slow crank is definitely your enemy either way.

    I didn't have time to look at the posted manual pages, but if it is indeed 3.5 and not 8.5, I too would believe it's a misprint. I do S-1600 trucks and set them to 8.5 just like the rest of the fleet, and get no complaints from the owners. An N/A IDI in a medium duty is a pretty gutless wonder...

    I've adjusted our days to compensate for the change in show and shine/meal planning. We will now be arriving Wednesday evening (late) and staying through Saturday morning. We will head home Saturday.

    Look at it this way... you will have about 10.5 to 12 degrees of internal pump advance. Too much inlet pressure will start to amputate the range at the top, so now instead of 11 degrees lets say, now you only have 8, or 6.... this will affect your lower RPM power under load as well as cut off...

    I'd like to do it. It would be cool if we could pick a Saturday that has a Jimmy Cone in it. That way, we could do the museum during the day and convoy to the Jimmy Cone that evening. Jimmy Cone's are first and third Saturday.
