    ZF5 Lubricant

This was my thought as well. Using it in a g56 currently from the specd atf. Zero issues shifting cold, and quieter and smoother shifting when warm. I knew of a zf truck that the guy switched the trans to synthetic gear oil early on. Truck had high ish 300k miles on it when I worked on it, and...

    ZF5 Lubricant

I wonder how well something like penzoil syncromesh would work in a zf5? I know people use it in alot of other manual transmissions that originally spec atf...

    I've got an Exhaust Problem!

    600 for a y pipe is insane.

    May have found boost leak

the pipe to manifold is a metal belled Connection, and the up pipe is a machined slip fit up into the turbo. Also, just because they are black doesnt mean they are always leaking. Alot of connections like that leak some when cold. Would be extremely lucky if the rag didnt mess up the turbo...

    May have found boost leak

There are no gaskets or donuts in any of those connections. Carefully see if anything will tighten up at all.

    6.9 W/Bad Injection pump?

Without the valve regulating housing pressure, it will run like the cold advance is on at all times. The cold advance sol. Just holds that ball off the seat when energized.

Won’t restart after sitting for 30 minutes

The problem is wear in the advance piston bore. I have found that putting power to the cold advance solenoid (causing the piston to move to a different spot) most of the time will get one starting when having "heat soak" problems.

    GV overdrive on CL

That is a good price for an un used unit, but it is missing the adapter (and all the other stuff they come with for the 3k price), and last I checked, gv wont sell any adapters without giving them a "core". Adapters do come up on ebay though.

    I've got an Exhaust Problem!

Probably get a lot longer life out of exhaust shop work. That walker stuff is cheap, but it is also cheap. Most of it I have used, and I have used alot, is much lighter tubing than I have seen any exhaust shop use. The walker stuff is cheap though, and is quick and easy.....if it fits right...ish.

7.3 idi turbo very very very long start

My old worn out one starts the best in real cold on just the right amount of napa starting fluid, and glow plugs....lol. Not recomended if you have a decent engine. If you use even 10% the amount of juice as peg does, you are probably using too much. Idi motors are much more sensitive to the...

    93 IDI over fueling?

Lol. Guy has some pretty interesting posts, like maybe he was involved in development or testing of these engines. Would be interesting to here what he has to say if that is the case.

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

Were the adjustable resistors (usually found underhood) used with these electric trailer brake controllers, or was there an earlier style of electric trailer brake controller?

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

Have next to no experience with those old school hydraulic/electric controllers, but yes, just take however that line is adapted into the line at the master out. Controller looks like maybe it has a power and a ground, and then the blue output wire that puts out amperage to run the electric...

Foolproof method for luminosity probe timing

Always wanted to play with one of these, never really heard anybody badmouth them, just that the pulse adapter method is pretty simple. Always wonder what point in combustion the lumi probe picks up, and what point of the pressure in the injection line the piezo picks up? Pretty significant...

Interesting video on motor oil, diesels, piston rings

Pretty sure lake speed is much older than 20.... What is it about dave that is so hard to watch? The guy really does know most of what he talks about, IS an experienced mechanic, not just a guy who owns buisiness, seems to be focused on a very good final product for his customer (maybe?) over...

US Gear Dual Range / Doug Nash Info

If it was bolted to the back of a 4x4 t19, it will bolt to the zf or the m5. Avoid the m5od if you can.

    7.3 idi turbo piston rings

So, what is the answer to the obnoxious blowby that the 6.9 and 7.3 have, even with like new sealing conditions? Seems like we could reduce the ring gap spec without issue, but I dont know??

Banks Sidewinder install and high boost

Dont have a map for that compressor but doubt the 18psi you speak of is way out of its efficiency range. Also didnt see anyone for leaving it with the wastegate non functional. Agree on boost alone not adding significant cylinder pressure without fuel to burn up that oxygen, creating more...

    Engine cleaning

What kind of pressure washer do you have? Most cheapish pressure washers will be fine. Avoid radiator, condenser, and intercooler fins. And do it with the engine dead cold. Cold water on hot electrical connectors will cause rapid cooling, and pull water into them. Still a risk of water in...
