    7.3 IDI excessive oil usage

Sounds like my 91… only 40k miles, but all the idle hours…

    Good morning from -10 PA.

Never even plugged my 91 in. -14* F, one cycle of the glow plugs and she lit right off.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Heh. First big winter storm earlier this month was 2 foot of snow. Most of it has melted away minus the 1/2” dusting we got this morning. Probably 6-7” here now

    Glow Plug Controller Question and...

I got my connectors set to about the right tension, and then put heat shrink wrap around them. Works great.

Here’s another picture. Awful angle but I was in a hurry.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Oh and those hoop steps have got to go… either no steps or better yet… ‘old man’ style running boards. I have never owned a truck without them, until now.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Boost, pyro, oil psi, and water temp. All GlowShift gauges. They… work. Probably won’t be the end result in that regard but, eh, it’s something.

So what did you do with your truck today?

It was extremely cold here today, I never even went to my trucks. @Nero, I have one picture of the 88 crew cab I got that a friend of mine took yesterday As you may be able to tell, the flatbed is too small. Gotta do something different there. Still works as a flatbed though at least. I’ll...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I could get you some tomorrow. It has a flatbed that’s too narrow on it right now, if I were to fix it up I’d either get a different flatbed, or find a factory box bed. Or a service bed. I have another even more hare brained idea, I’ll elaborate on that tomorrow

So what did you do with your truck today?

I happen to have a 4WD ZF5, BW 1356, and a Dana 60 laying around… with 4.10s even. Probably could be done easily enough. But the truck itself is pretty rough, need to start with some fixes first.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Went and got yet another IDI powered Ford truck this afternoon… 1988 F350 CCLB dually ZF5 2WD 7.3 with 093 ATS kit Ran decent all 120 miles home, leaking some fuel though. Exhaust was kinda smoky (whitish smoke, mostly under load) Truck has a pile of miles, and the wiring needs some serious...

85’ 6.9idi n/a: two water pump seal failures.

No, I’m just saying that I had a couple gaskets that wouldn’t seal up, bought a stiff paper based one from Napa, very light coating of 90 minute Permatex and that worked for me. At 25 ft lbs for all bolts except top and bottom two, at 30.

    Coolant in oil

That is specific to 6.9s, 7.3s have plugs beneath that prevent the valley pan from touching any coolant

85’ 6.9idi n/a: two water pump seal failures.

I recommend to go much tighter on the bolts Had this on my 91 recently, went through a couple water pump gaskets but wound up closer to 25-30 ft-lbs

    7.3 idi problem

I don’t plug in unless below zero. My ‘mileage’ is the same in this instance. 7.3 IDI with Hypermax turbo/intercooler/exhaust system, maxed Moose IP and possibly one of the last sets of Russ injectors, set to 2100 PSI. RIP Russ, you will be dearly missed. Words can’t quite express how deeply so.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I just use Napa Heavy Duty Antifreeze, and a coolant filter, to keep SCAs in check.

So what did you do with your truck today?

This is why, drive slow and chain up, or stay home
  20. KansasIDI

So what did you do with your truck today?

I just have all terrain tires, and if I so much as slip, I chain up. Better safe than sorry. Sure it’s slow going but if you’re driving fast in that crap, you probably aren’t thinking things through just a whole hell of a lot…

So what did you do with your truck today?

Worst part, it’s supposed to continue accumulating all night, then turn to snow early morning, and then the wind will blow. Sounds like it’s gonna blizzard.

So what did you do with your truck today?

1/2” to 3/4” of ice here. Tire chains ftw. Helped pull people up icy hills on the only road that was still open south out of Manhattan, and taught a truck driver how to chain up, after he slid and blocked the road. Cops and such were busy on the interstate dealing with wrecks, pretty messy out...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Well when I converted to serpentine I was expecting less belt noise… not so… had much more. Developed screeching at times. So I replaced all the idlers, tensioner, and messed around with it. I had put a new Dayco belt from Oreillys on when I did the conversion, it was in Manhattan while I was up...

California ( and others ), RV's, and more laws...

Yes, definitely climate/weather related… It is corrosive, so… Interesting… Kansas City is pretty big though… Although I cuss it… I wouldn’t delete. It’s all meant to go together, and it’s become very illegal to delete… and yes, it makes repair bills expensive, it’s a pain in the ass, but...
