Glow Plug Bypass - not working

OK. The different style were run differently... The 6.9, in the head style controller supplied +12 to the solenoid to power it. A simple manual bypass would be to supply a push button switched +12 to the same post. The 7.3, on the back of the intake (or valve cover for some turbo...

What autozone/orileys coolant can I use?

Zerex G-05 meets the Cummins standard (Cummins CES 14603) to be compatible with the OLD Cummins engines. At first G-05 didn't meet this standard, but they changed their formula and now meet this spec. It is safe of the older seals and gaskets. I've run it in my IDI's and netx service...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Actually, yes. LOL... I put several thousand more miles on it as my daily driver before I sold it. Sometimes I wish I had kept it... it wasn't a bad little car. It had something like 310,000 on it when I sold it......

So what did you do with your truck today?

Yep, I changed the oil in the 11 SuperCrew EB, and it sounded much happier... I wasn't really over, but you could tell a difference. You can tell it's turbocharged, with almost the exact same amount of miles on the engine and oil change, the 3.7 N/A is much cleaner than the 3.5 EB.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Reminds me of one of the first days (several years ago) that I drove my 91 Jetta Diesel. I stopped at the gas station for a pop and some coffee.... a guy walked up and asked if I need help, or a ride somewhere.... I asked why, he said with that rod knock, I'm not sure you are going to make it...

Stick to the damn topic when posting

Yep... the guideline that we use is, the forum is like a group of friends sitting around a campfire.... the conversation may stray, but as long as it isn't completely off the rails, we let it take it's course. Most times it comes back around.

    heater hoses

The line from the heater hose to the bottom of the radiator is an E4OD thing. It was used to heat up the bottom of the radiator faster, which is where the transmission cooler is, in cold weather to bring the E4OD to operation temperature faster. However, the orifice in that hose is a pin hole...

    Safe running rpm

The IH/U-Haul pump governed speed is ~2800 RPM The Ford Pickup/Van spec is ~3800...... but most start to defuel in the 32-3300 range...... As mentioned above, on the governor all day is fine. Towcat ran a fleet of tow truck, and his rollback was an F-Superduty (450) and had 5:13 (or higher)...

New to me 86 6.9l - What now?

On the Bullnose (80-86) trucks they had 2 different dashes. If it was a factory Non-A/C truck, there are no dash vents next to. The instrument cluster or on the passenger side above the glove box. There are solid panels there. The Factory A/C trucks have vents in the dash.

Worth the time to rebuild injectors myself for stock level applications?

Big thing with the new Delphis, Their pop pressures are in a tolerance range, and lets say that range is 1800lbs, +or- 150 lbs...... so you could have 8 injectors, 2 that pop at 1650, two that pop at 1950lbs, 2 at 1800lbs, one at 1725 and one at 1875........ see the problem here.. The...

New to me 86 6.9l - What now?

What I normally do (not saying it’s right or wrong, just what I do), if fill the radiator, and let it burp out while filling it. Get it as full as it will let you. I then fill the bottle completely full. That way it can pull in the extra it needs. After running the truck for a bit, I will...

Ex Wife- my LONG term build

I think one of the big differences between the IDI era trucks and now, it seems that almost EVERY truck is ordered with at a minimum, a Reese style hitch, and most have at least a basic “tow package”. My plain Jane XL F-150 has a factory tow package with a Reese style hitch, a 4-flat and...

Ch as nge the oil or just the filter?

You still have to change the oil. It’s not burning the stuff that settles out in the pan. Still change at recommended interval.... With it burning, you aren’t changing the oil.... you are adding to it.....
