Beware Amazon ZD-1-A labeled GPs arriving with ZD-9 parts.

Are there small holes punched in the bottom corners of the bags? I have posted this one before. It is from FordTechMakuloco, who I think is a member on here, or over next door at SDD. This is a video he has showing a bad fake, a good fake, and the real thing. They are 5.4 coils and plugs…...

    Vacuum Pump

Not sure on the oil. All it is doing is lubing the diaphragm to "lobe" (don't know exactly how is is set up in there) and maybe the bearing. I would put something like 30 weight, or maybe some left over 15w-40..... it just needs to be fluid and slick in an application like this.

Intake manifold holes, and starting problems- need opinions.

Since this seems to come up every so often... the plug voltage. Both the 6.9 "dumb" and the 7.3 "smart" controller send B+ ~12 volts to the plugs. What I have read is they are 6 volt RATED, non regulated plugs. This is so they would heat faster, so the WTS cycle was shorter. Remember, Ford...

    Superduty axle swap

That is your key right there... Remember, The 7.3 PSD was 235ish stock..... and the 6.0 was 325..... I have an 03 6.0 Excursion with 3.73's. I tow a 4000lb travel trailer like nothing, with the cruise set at 70..... but... I am 100% factory... 31 inch factory height tires, and no tuner so...

Getting harder to start. Slow cranks then faster cranks.

I’m fairly sure it’s the starter going. I don’t have a CEL (6.0’s normally throw a light for a glow plug). 6.0’s are ******* the starting/charging system. They pull a ton of power out to start and even run. Earlier in my ownership, I had newer batteries, that I though were good, they...

Getting harder to start. Slow cranks then faster cranks.

@Selahdoor I was beginning to suspect the starter before your video. I have 2 brand new batteries, well cleaned and good connections. I even keep a battery tender on them when it is parked. So it was the leading thing I suspected.... now watching your video, that is similar to what mine...

Getting harder to start. Slow cranks then faster cranks.

Well, not an apples to apples comparison… but I think you just showed me the factory (2003, 172,000 mile) starter on my 6.0 is getting tired. It does something similar…. Guess I need to place an order….. can’t be too mad at it….

Tire dismounting and mounting by hand, IDIBRONCO style

Yes, the cheaper tires do wear much more quickly. When I bought my SuperCrew they replaced the tires with some Westlake tires. Nice looking tires, and did well in the snow last winter. A few months back, I found a screw with the drivers front. No big deal, took it in to have it patched…...

    Smoke after turbo install

1400 is lumy probe timing, and it is also ATDC…. 2000 is pulse timing (anything that hooks the the fuel line and detects the fuel pulse in the line - rotunda, ferret, tach-n-time, Kent Moore), and is BTDC….

    Swapping a 7.3 IDI to a 6BT 12 Valve Cummins

Go take a look at Project Big Ed.... or something like that. Darrin has a 6BT Cummins in front of a C6 in a Crew Cab Bricknose truck. Darrin has done a lot of custom work on that truck and also on Droopy.. it is a 4BT in front of a ZF5 in a Regular Cab Bricknose truck. I have seen both trucks...

Bad sound on a fresh rebuild (video)

Jake, How long has it run since you put it all back together? I remember reading of more than one member who had bought a truck that has sat for a while, and it would chuff on the initial few start-ups but would clear up after some run time….. maybe you just have some schmoo in a lifter……

    Trailer Brake Controllers

I have a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller in the Excursion. It is a more basic brake controller, but it is still an inertia type controller, not the ramp, time-delay the really cheap one are. It has worked well with both my travel trailers (~4000lbs) and a couple other larger trailer that I...

Question about Bullnose windshield cowling: plastic plug placement

I’m not sure on the plugs…. I didn’t pay attention when we did the wiper motor on our 86. Yes, several members have used metal door screen “cloth” and lined the underside of the vent area to keep the schmoo out….. don’t really see it from above. Or, I have seen them switch out for the...

    Rear axle seals and bearings

Cubey, The Dana axles have always had a drum/hub combo. Our 73 F-250, and someone I knew that had a late 70’s 3/4 Dodge had the drum/hub unit. All the Sterling axles have a hub, and removable drum (or rotor on the newer 10.50 in the SuperDuty/Excursions). This is the way my Excursion is…...

    Turbo oil lines once more.

Here is an idea…. With a question… is the oil feed to the turbo going to be some kind of flexible line? If it going to be flexible, place a flexible line into the port in the block (I’ve seen were a grease gun hose will thread right in there, I have not tried it myself), ano place your Tee on...

    Speed Control Module

Is the O/D Off light dimly lit when the truck is running? There is a relay and a fuse to the TECA. I would start checking to see if it has voltage and is actually working. I wouldn't drive it with the TECA out of service, that is a quick way to kill an E40D.... Because for the Transmission...

    Speed Control Module

Is the transmission working correctly? If I am looking at the correct one in your sig, it has an E40D….. it needs the signal too.. If it is working and he speedo isn’t, I think on the OBS trucks the speedo signal goes to the TECA first, then the dash.
