    Gauges Guidance

Found this on glowshift’s website: “Our Tachometers are only designed for a gasoline, single coil application when monitoring a gauges RPM. For multiple coil applications, the use of a multiple coil or aftermarket ignition system adapter is required. Vehicles equipped with High Energy Ignition...

    Gauges Guidance

The stock tach has a magnetic sensor on the timing cover that senses the teeth of the timing gear, so the only tach that will understand that signal is the stock one. The 3g alternator puts out a more “generic” signal that should work with aftermarket tachs. I don’t know for sure about he...

    Gauges Guidance

Someone else can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that if you do the 3g alternator upgrade you can run an aftermarket tach (like the one they sell for gas trucks) from the stator wire.

    Gauges Guidance

The stock cig lighter is always on, but there’s “key on” power available right behind it from the radio harness. My dash cam plugs into the cig lighter for power, so I have it set up to turn off when I take the key out.

If it were me, I would skip the voltage gauge and get an EGT gauge instead. If you want voltage you can get a cigarette lighter voltage meter like this one: Dual USB Car Charger,4.8A Output,Cigarette Lighter Voltage Meter Compatible with Apple iPhone,iPad,Samsung Galaxy,LG,Google Nexus,USB...

Interest in Electric Vacuum Pump Conversions?

I’m interested. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for a used hydroboost unit locally, but if this is comparable in cost I’d definitely consider it.

    Coolant on glow plug?

The oil you’re seeing could also be diesel fuel from leaky return hoses. I’d also check the drain at the back of your valley pan to make sure it’s clear and not clogged up with debris.

New injectors and pump. Exhaust smoking.

Kind of a side note, but I would go ahead and add an EGT gauge since that’s a piece of the puzzle you’re missing. You can get cheap ones for <$30 shipped on Amazon. I have this one in my truck now: EGT Exhaust Gas K Type Probe Temperature Sensors with Blue LED Gauge Combo Kit (℃ / ℉)...

New injectors and pump. Exhaust smoking.

I would ask the pump rebuilder how many degrees BTDC you should set the timing. I have seen another thread where the builder recommended something different than the typical 8.5 degrees.

Trying out my DTI timing unit

Getting back to the weird readings, I found this in the manual for the DTI unit: “The transducer should be dry. Under wet conditions readings can be erratic. If erratic readings are observed, remove transducer, wipe line and transducer with a clean, dry cloth and spray transducer, on all...

    Stranded

If you don’t have an electric lift pump, it might be worth picking up one of those cheap generic ones just for diagnostic purposes. You can know whether system is delivering fuel without having to crank the engine. You can also use it as a transfer pump to move some diesel from your overflowing...

    Clutch Problem

I would check the bushings in your pedal assembly as well. They wear out and you have a lot of pedal movement/slack before anything actually presses on the clutch master cylinder.

    Zf5 transmission removal

I had to unhook my exhaust pipes to get them out of the way, but my truck has an aftermarket dual exhaust so you might not have the same issue. To reach the top two transmission mounting bolts, you can remove the trans support crossmember and let the transmission/engine tilt back a little bit...

Harbor Freight diesel compression test kit, useless?

This is exactly what I did as well. The threaded portion is too long, so it bottoms out before the head can seal unless you grind/cut it down.

What is this connected to vacuum

Now you guys have me thinking. Does anyone know how these vacuum warning sensors work, or how to test them?

Cracked T19 belhousing and popping out of first...ZF5 or fix?

I have a zf5 in my 4x4 with 4.10s and 35” tires. I really like the 5th gear, I would definitely hate to not have it. Around here (Ohio) zf5s come up for sale once every couple months, usually for 600-800. If you go that route, definitely inspect it closely for cracks. I had to replace mine...

    Olive

Depending on your year of engine, there may be a steel return line on the driver’s side that I believe has olive(s) on it as well. They basically get squeezed between a nut and the steel line to create a seal. They are typically rubber, but I found some viton replacements a while back that...

throw out bearing woes.. I FOUND THE PROBLEM, and it was simple, too!

Some good news is that the ZF-5 is really not a complicated transmission to rebuild. My output shaft bearing went out, probably making similar noises to yours. I ended up swapping the guts from a gasser ZF-5 into my diesel case, and replacing the seals. I still have my “bad” transmission gear...

throw out bearing woes.. I FOUND THE PROBLEM, and it was simple, too!

I agree that it doesn’t sound like a throw out bearing. I would check your u-joints for sure, and also check the fluid in your transmission, transfer case, and rear end. The one with burned/nasty fluid will be the problem.

Not my truck, but I’ve had my eye on these “weld yourself” flatbed kits from double diamond fabrication.

U Joint Size? At Part Store Waiting!

Good thing it was the slip yoke that got worn, not the driveshaft yoke. It’s a whole lot cheaper to buy a new slip yoke!

Can’t get wheel lugs to seat

I actually just did my brakes today, and it took a LOT of beating with the 4lb hammer to get them all to seat so there was no movement between the hub and rotor. I felt like I was driving railroad spikes. I’d just keep hitting them hard until there’s no movement.

In search of good diesel shop in boise idaho area.

I’ve spent a lot of time in Poland, love it there. Gdańsk and krakow are more likely to have English-speakers because they’re so touristy. I speak Polish though so I go where I want!

Can’t get wheel lugs to seat

When you flip the hub/rotor assembly over and look at the backside if the rotor, can you see if any of the studs aren’t fully seated?
