    Anyone recognize this turbo setup?

I know they put zf-5s in chevy trucks down in South America, so maybe they did in Canada too. In other countries zf-5s we’re available with detachable bellhousings, I wish ours were that way rather than integrated.

    80cc IDIPerformance pumps in stock

Glad to hear he’s doing IPs again. I checked every day for months last year, and eventually was told via email he had no ETA on them because he was busy building engines. Small business, I get it, but I was bummed. It was a stressful time when my IP was slowly failing and I was checking R&D and...

@jcksnghst what state are you in?

    Zf5-S42=Zf5-S47?

I have never heard of anyone mixing tailhousings and bellhousings between an s5-42 and s5-47. I thought the shafts were different lengths between the two transmissions. I did swap bellhousings on my s5-42, and like Nero said I had to adjust shims under the input shaft bearing race to get...

    Cup holders

I want to pick up a second of those folding cup holders and put it on the other side. That way I would have a place for xtra large drinks too. Right now all the gears clear with my cup, but reverse is probably 1/4” away from the cup.

    Cup holders

Well fellas I gotta say it’s nice to be able to put my cup down! I do have some lessons learned for anyone else making this type of cup holder. The shift boot base has a recessed portion that normally goes all the way down to the metal of the transmission tunnel, but with the cup holder mount...

You can buckle that one in place too so it doesn’t slide around on corners. That’s actually a solid solution lol!

    Cup holders

I got my version welded and painted, but I need to pick up some 1/2” longer screws to install it. I’m thinking I might pick up a second of those folding cup holders so I can mount one on each side. I tested my regular tumbler and it clears, but a jumbo super-sized drink might interfere with...

    Cup holders

Here’s the solution I want to see somebody do on their farm/beater truck: take a 3.5 inch hole saw and cut a hole in the trans tunnel, then drop one of these into it:

Just to be clear I did not use the 1/8 stuff, that would have been a pain! I went with some 14ga plain steel that was a wonky shape, that’s why I had to use two pieces instead of one

What about poorly-made, badly-welded cup holders? Are Harbor Freight OK for those? Asking for a friend…

I thought I had some 14ga stainless scrap, but when so dug it out it was actually 1/8”. That would have made for some heavy-duty cup holders!

    Cup holders

It almost feels out of place to talk about it now , but here’s the beginning of my attempt to make a cup holder mount like the one at the start of this thread: I made it out of 2 pieces because I’m using some 14ga scrap I have laying around. They’ll get welded together at 90 degrees along the...

    6.9 or 7.3?

This is a tough one. I feel like you’re rolling the dice on either one because you don’t know their true condition. Any chance they will let you pull the heads before buying? If not, I vote for the 7.3 because at least where I live they are more plentiful if I need spare parts. If I need a new...

    Cup holders

There’s a YouTube channel called wrench benders that is swapping a R&D upgraded 6.9 into a 1968 international loadstar grain truck. Unfortunately, the truck does not feature cup holders (or seat belts for that matter), so Nero will have to look at other options to have cup holders in his life.

I got my hands on 350 gallons of Valvoline full synthetic 5w-30 a while back, and it runs just fine in my (non-cupholder equipped) truck. I mix it 50-50 with diesel for easier starting, and thin it 10% in the winter with gas. Here was my thread about the oil...

    Rear Gears Help

Here’s another option I considered when I was in your situation: buy a used axle locally and swap it in so you have something to drive around, then do a complete rebuild of your original axle. Once you’re done and you have your rebuilt axle installed, sell the used axle again to somebody else...

    Rear Gears Help

I would look locally for a rear axle on Craigslist or FB marketplace. I had a similar situation a little while back, here was my thread: https://www.oilburners.net/threads/damage-inside-differential-what-to-do-next.90726/ I had no trouble finding axles locally once I decided to go that route...

How about something like this: Moblorg Center Console for Minivans, SUVs, Middle Van Console, Extra Cup Holders, Large Storage, Made in USA (Gray) https://a.co/d/4cPRDJ6 8.5 inches so it seems like it would squeeze right in there and fit snug enough to stay put. I’m not sure about the length...

Fluid suggestions for high mileage ZF-5?

In the past I’ve used the Valvoline full-synthetic ATF in both the zf-5 and the 1356. It’s the one in the red bottle and they have it at my Walmart for like $25/gallon. I think that’s the best low-cost option. Now I run MTL in my zf-5 and motorcraft mercon LV (not mercon V) in my 1356.

I painted my truck one piece at a time

Fantastic work, that looks incredible! Thanks for listing out the products you used. I plan/hope to someday paint my truck, so I pay attention to what other people use when they do their own work.
