My FIPL mod for the E40d

So apparently my tps or fipl was out of range measuring at .8v at idle. I thought I was just too dam light on my peddle. I have been getting wierd shifts and replaced all the corresponding components. Vss, tach sensor on the IP gear cover. cleaned out all the connections and added silicone...

7.3 idi cranks but no start

hows your glowplugs? Is it so cold out that you can see your breath? I think you do have air in your fuel. combine that with bad glowplugs, slow cranking starter from the batteries and you could have a no start

Has anyone had their "OD" flash on an e40d and not flash the next start up?

I didnt know automatic transmissions could stall out the motor. maybe it was just because it was too cold or something? Im in california but it was still cold in the morning.

Has anyone had their "OD" flash on an e40d and not flash the next start up?

My OD was flashing in the middle of my drive (after 5 miles). got to my destination (15 miles) without feeling anything wrong with my E40D. pushing the od button to shift up and down still worked. I disconnected the battery from a switch. I started it up after 4 hours and its no longer flashing...

    Fuel mileage.

odometer after first fillup (Example, 1,000,000) keep note of this Odometer after second fillup (example 1,000,140) From the first fillup to the second fillup you have driven 140 miles. Second fillup gallons (example 10 gallons) it would say at the gas pump. keep note of this second fillup...

    Fuel mileage.

15mpg sounds about right for an f250 empty with normal throttle. i would imagine highway miles would be less with TC not locking up than LA traffic

    Building a better db2

In which way does the timing change when the temperature increases? is it mainly because of the viscosity? Could any additive change this?

    Replacing the TC

is there any reason for this?
  11. Christian9112

    TC, flex plate, transmission?

get a thicker one and never do it again. the only reason for the flexplate is for the misalignment of the motor and the transmission. you can get away with having a thicker flexplate. it can handle more HP.

    TC, flex plate, transmission?

either the tc nuts are lose or that thing is cracked m8. worst case scenario is that your main bearing is jacked up. does the sound get louder at higher RPMs? its suppose to spin straight

    Replacing the TC

The clutch pack is inside the welds isnt it? its gonna be hard to confirm unless you're pulling 500 torque

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

I didnt even know that. my old one was so lose i thought it was just a regular nut. I put on a fine thread nylon lock nut on there. not sure if the heat is gonna affect it but ill give it a shot until i find that crimped style nut.

    Replacing the TC

where are you getting it? can you get us a review of it?
  16. Christian9112

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

I just had a humbling experience. The TC nuts were not tightened all the way. there as a 1/16th air gap between the flexplate and the nut. I put on a lock nut thinking it would prevent this kind of thing. that lock nut gave me a lot of torque that it convinced me that it was fully locked. For...

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

took the top cover off. cleaned everything. retarded the timing a bit. made sure everything moves as it should. i havent ran it for a test drive. but i will tomorrow.

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

Is this the check valve on the barb fitting on top of the cover? do I need to remove the whole cover?

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

well, crap. it looks like the cold advance is stuck. probably why the knocking at high rpm. ive been holding off on a new IP because of financial issues but at this point, i think im out of options. im not sure if I could just set the timing a little retarded to compensate or try to un stick it...

    Another Hard Start Thread...

Ive had my vinyl hose on my return line for about a year now. too lazy to replace it. dont be like me lol. Id put a check valve somewhere too if you still have the mech lift pump. when I got my ambulace, I noticed that horton, the manufacturer of the box, had messed/tapped with a lot of the...

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

Ok so I did a quick testing today and found out that I have been misreading my oil pressure gauge all this time. so cold idle it is at 45 psi. i didnt get a chance to do a test drive. I did notice that my cold advance switch is no longer changing my fuel pressure like it used to (around .5 psi)...

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

gonna have to remove the oil pan for that huh. I have seen people put diesel inside their crankcase to clean out their gas engine. they idle the engine for 10 min or so. as dumb as it sounds, i want to try it. It's the only method I could think of that I have time for. What is the proper oil...

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

Well now that you mentioned it, I do have some exhaust valve chuffing. With some constant ticking. The oil was around 180f but I didn't pay that much attention mattching rpms with pressure of the oil. What do I do if it's too high? It's been like this since I got it.

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

i have the cold advance on a switch for when im running wmo. I think ill dump 5 gallons of wmo to see if its timing related.

Knocking at higher end rpm ?

hopefully its just too advanced and that turning the ip 1 flat is causing the problem. Ill do that first since its the easiest to diagnose.
