Engine oil should theoretically cleaner cause ive been running a bypass filter for the last year. Yes wvo is still plentiful for me for now. hopefully doesnt dry up or ill have to switch to the dark side.
Yes, it's still the IP that was on the truck when i got it (non running). I disassembled...
Ive had this happen around 0F it puddles coolant while warming up., maybe a palm size after 15 mins. It could be the water pump shaft seals or one of the hose fittings on the top of the pump. It didnt leak after it was warm so i never saw where it was coming from
did you torque them down. its 30 or 35 fr lbs i cant remember. though, every idi in history smokes when it starts.. what matters is what it does when it is up to temp and gets a load on it.
less than $100 or build one yourself from an old bottle jack. if youre serious about being a diesel tech, intimately learning the fuel system on an IDI will set a baseline for everything else you will work on
It's been about a year since the last update on the system, happy to report everything is still going strong and at this point have close if not more than 20k miles on straight wvo. The second combination v-serp pulley iteration has proven sturdy. Pump is still tight and the double front seal...
The tips shown dont look too bad. I dont recommend digging into injectors unless you have at least a pop tester and timing tools at the very minimum. Then if you're going that far, new nozzle tips and shims. Carbon buildup in the bore is from a bad copper washer seal.
it's a special part that has a small check valve inside to regulate housing pressure. if you have a straight through fitting, the pump will act like the cold advance solenoid is always on
Finally got around to replacing the sacked out I-beam bushings. Have a pit to work out of so it was fairly simple, i didnt even take the wheels off just used some I beam sections across the top of the pit and some bottle jacks, one for the frame on the side i was working and one for the traction...
i bought a few cases of those too before i realized the psd filters were almost as cheap. so if i ever use 40 psd filters ill start using the regular idi ones
in my head the psd filter is designed for longer oci's and maybe finer particulate removal cause of the heui system. idk i run a TP...
Same price as the Motorcraft on Rockauto.
Today, I rigged the blower speed selector switch by taking it apart, cleaning all the contacts, bending forward one of the contact plates that had gotten melty and sunk out of range of the rotating contacts, glueing it back together where i broke a...
yes i knew they were adjustable.. thought it was just the upper had the eccentric bolt and was adjusted by loosening the clamp and turning the cam, but i could be wrong
Ball joints are tight yet, no slop. Wondering if this weird camber can be the result of the traction beam bushings wearing out. definitely due for an alignment but this seems to be getting worse and the ball joints still check out.
yes, from everything I've read, leaving the key on for extended period of time is what would likely kill the fss. ive decided to keep a spare IP top cover in my toolbox in case i burn one up
