Compounds - A due diligence quest

Can you put a 35 psi regulated air pad on you oil pig and then time how long it takes to fill a 1 gallon bucket? My guess is that you will get different flows depending on temperature, but the above should give you a rough idea. Great job so far! Like to see some more pics!;Sweet

Calculating compression ratio of an IDI

Machine shop says an offset pin can be done, but they do not have the equipment to do it.

Calculating compression ratio of an IDI

I know you can on some motors. Going to the machine shop today to ask a few questions and decide which direction my build is going to take.

Calculating compression ratio of an IDI

I am into them $265 for cleaning, magnafluxing, shaving and vacuum testing. They passed the vac test at 6 bars... Dave says thats almost as good as a fresh valve job.

Calculating compression ratio of an IDI

Just picked up my heads>>> I found these specs in my FSM: Valve height: Intake .042-.054 Exhaust .051-.063 Minimum head thickness is 4.7950 I took the printout with me to the shop so we could measure and talk about it. Tough call to lay out the cash for heads that may be...

    Increasing Mileage?

Top speed in double overdrive would still be 97MPH @ 3500 RPM on that combo!!:D:D Simp- I showed my wife a picture of your 5th wheel and tow rig. She said "Thats AWESOME!" I do believe she is a keeper. Or batshit crazy...LOL

Calculating compression ratio of an IDI

Thank you! I was hoping you would see this having read most of your posts on this type of stuff. I measured my piston height at .010 above deck. Machine shop called me today and said that they took .011 off my heads. Hoping thats not too much.

    Increasing Mileage?

I must agree with the above... especially because we know you are towing a 5er in Rocky Mountain territory. My truck has the 3.55s and I was considering going to 4.56 because my truck is used to tow 80%+ of the time. A good GV set up will work well with these trucks as long as you take the...

    Scored a brownie!

Not posted to make you green; don't go Hulk on me! I built a spreadsheet that allows one to see all the ratios in High and Low, it shows MPH based on the RPM you choose, or swap rear end ratios to see how that affects everything. IF you were pulling a really, really heavy load this combo...

    Scored a brownie!

Nice. I could sure use those flanged outputs; mine are some huge u-joints. Toughest part of this will be finding or fabbing some flanges.

    Scored a brownie!

It has the two rear holes cast into the case. The front has a bracket that looks like a collar and rides on the front of the input shaft like a carrier bearing- even has a grease fitting so it can move around a little. There is also a plate with shift rod guides built into the front...

    1954 gmc 2.5 ton

Niiiiice! Love the old iron. I had a '57 Chev 1/2 ton with the smaller inline 6; doubt that there is much in common. Loved the "kickstart" on the floor in mine. Its the reason I bought my '57 IH; the IH has much thicker steel. I had to get rid of the Chevy when the door started falling off. At...

    Instant notification issue...

Well, its happening again. :dunno I checked my filters and ob is definitely not filtered. I even turned the filters all off. I have tried going into User CP and updating my e-mail address and resetting my notification settings over the last few days; all to no avail. Can a moderator check...

Calculating compression ratio of an IDI

cookoo I wondered what had happened, but I didn't want to be presumptuous or pushy about it. Thanks for trying! :rotflmao I actually still have that turbo laying around, as I ended up having the local guru fit my housings to a BW center and wheels. It works pretty good- one of these...

Do you have a 6.9 powerstroke?

Calculating compression ratio of an IDI

I actually measured mine; it crowns pretty close to 0.010 over the deck surface. ;Sweet My plan is to lower the compression a bit by shaving the pistons. Just need to figure out how much. I will know more after I talk to the machine shop guru; he wasn't there when I dropped my stuff off...

Calculating compression ratio of an IDI

Just like the title says. How does one go about getting an accurate number? I am guessing that the pre-injection cup volume + the volume of the chambers + the volume of the swirl chambers on the piston are all necessary to determine static compression. (in addition to bore, stroke and piston...

    Scored a brownie!

A few pics... Internals are solid looking. Gears are humongous!! Especially that double-under gear. There is enough surface rust that has formed from sitting in farmers shed that I will tear it down and clean it all up prior to installation. Amazingly it takes very little effort to spin the...

    Scored a brownie!

Picked up a 4 speed brownie... thing is massive, but I think its doable. The plan is to do a body lift for turbo clearance, so that should also help by allowing me to mount the brownie higher in the frame. Has great ratios for my truck: 8341-C 2.40,1.28,1.00,.84 With my 3.55 rear axle it...

how much boost can the stock turbo handle?

Turning up your fuel=more boost. You really need a pyro to determine your limits. Mine is turned way up, but I try to keep the EGTs under 1200.

    Trip report:

Nice!! I usually fight that gumbo goo on my bike when we explore that area... it REALLY is impossible to describe how slippery that stuff becomes when its wet. Its pretty much like grease!!
