Well it took me 3 years...

Looks nice, I like it. Might have to get a set for the front of mine when I finally go flatbed.

    Another hard cold start issue

20 seconds is probably ok a few times, but I suspect after too much of that you'll be burning them out. My truck definitely starts better when I leave the glowplugs on a while, but too much of that just kills em. For what its worth, when I replaced all the glowplugs in my truck I took one of...

    Foaming? Why?

I've never seen vegetable oil foam at any temperature, and I've seen a fair amount of it, most of it going through a centrifuge.

    Maybe Clutch Switch?

All the clutch switch does is prevent cranking, not prevent fuel from getting to the IP or anything like that. So if your engine cranks with the key your clutch switch is fine.

    Few questions about new truck

First question, no idea. I dunno anything about brakes. 2nd question, yes, a 6.9 ip will work on a 7.3 and vice versa. No internal adjustment of the pump is necessary (or recommended) except maybe the fuel screw. 3rd question, well, its common to do it the other way around. Are you going to...

    8 Hour Road Trip... tips?

You'll be fine. Once these trucks start and get warmed up, in my experience, they don't just let you down without some warning. Twice mine had to be towed: first for a seized AC pump, second for the tired worn out engine that was in there. I bought my truck from a guy who didn't even know how...

    Another hard cold start issue

I disagree. Though by the time one wears out the other is probably done, thats not necessarily the case. If my IP dies tomorrow I won't be replacing one year old injectors just because I'm doing the IP.

    New Guy From Alabama

Love what you did with your grille. I want to do that to mine. I wish I had enough money sitting around to make you a decent offer on the flatbed and dually setup.

What type of IDI should I buy?

Some like the 6.9 because it has thicker cylinder walls. The early ones had a few more problems, one notable problem is use of the block heater can crack the block. Others like the 7.3 because of slightly bigger head bolts, slightly more displacement, some of them came with a factory turbo...

    glow plug bypass

There is a tech article that details how to do it. Very nice writeup, easy to follow.

    Another hard cold start issue

Nope it won't be timed. Marks only tell you where that IP is timed relative to that pump and engine. New IP and timing will be different. That said an improperly timed by ear pump will still run way better than a worn out IP that is properly timed (in my experience). With a new fuel system...

    MURPHY IS A HUGE TOOL!!!!

I understand why you want the factory hard line (I think thats what it is) but its pretty easy to just put a hose barb on the lift pump and cut the hard line on its way into the filter, and clamp a hose on that. Thats what I did anyway.

    Absolutly gutless need opinions

Hills are pretty hard on these things with a load. Its my experience that you won't be able to maintain speed on most hills with a decent load. You'll at least lose 5-10% of your speed, often a lot more. If the fuel system is old that could really wake it up. Or timing on your current system...

Baldwin Oil Filters For Cheap On Ebay (U-haul)

I don't understand why they would prevent people from buying lots from them. What do they care, as long as they're sold? I live in a 1 bedroom apartment (my truck is my workshop/garage/tool shed right now) so I am resisting the urge to buy stuff up... just don't have room for it.

    H cut key

When I bought my truck, the ignition had been replaced an the PO gave me two keys. For a while I used one for the doors, one for the ignition. Then one day I made a mistake and put the door key in the ignition, and it turned! The correct ignition key does not work in the doors. I've just...

How I got rid of my old style Banks airbox

The sidewinder setup might be nice for a cold air. I'll run this awhile and see how it does for me. I didn't have any good mileage data before, I've only driven this truck 13000 miles in 3 years, and only about 2,000 on the current engine and fuel system. I will be interested to see if I can...

How I got rid of my old style Banks airbox

Many who have the early Banks turbo complain that the airbox is very difficult to remove and re-install, and that it covers so much of the top of the IDI engine (most of the IP, injectors, glowplugs etc) that it has to be removed fairly often. It also uses a K&N air filter which many believe...

    oil pressure woes

Where you are reading pressure varies. I've taken pressure from the stock sender location, and it'll be around 10 psi lower than when taken from the spot by the oil filter housing. I see 50-60 cold, and around 30 warm in mine generally, at idle. I really wish gauge manufacturers gave an...

    thoroughbred diesels?

Are they based in Kentucky? There's a shop here that goes by that name, I heard a while back that they were going from repair to mostly internet sales.

    serpentine belt problems.

No, and I'm away from my truck now and can't check. I just went in there and told them it was too short, and they hooked me up with a longer one, no part number needed.

    serpentine belt problems.

Napa gave me a 111.8", ended up needing a 112.5", for what thats worth.

    body lift?

Got a 3" here. Driver side head hit the firewall, a few minutes with a crowbar and its perfect. Had to modify the shroud, and the shifter boots since mine is a manual 4x4 (the worst part of the job really). I'm glad for the room.

    Clutch #2

I've heard good and bad about both. When I took out a needle bearing clutch after 1500 miles, the bearings fell out in my hand. A member on this board sent me his old 11" flywheel with a 10,000 kevlar pilot bushing installed, and it looked like new. I don't see how a lack of moving parts...

    nutless

Fuel system, yes, and timing can make a big difference. When I was looking at trucks, and driving them, some would feel adequately powered and many others could barely get out of their own way.
