I pulled the pan when I did the piston. I just never got a good seal when I replaced it. My truck never marked it's territory until after that nightmare. In hindsight, I should have pulled the rad support and motor - would have been easier than pulling the turbo, heads and oil pan in frame.
I don't understand why you are not just pulling the heads. Mine did something very similar years ago. My push rod came through the rocker cover. I pulled the heads and replaced a piston all in frame. (Don't recommend pulling an oil pan in frame...hard to get a good seal when you replace it)
Very cool, Brian. My son was helping me with a roof this weekend and mentioned he would love to get a F100 ... or a little Ranger. I thought I was covered on his vehicle needs since the ex neighbor (my ex wife's new husband ... go ahead and laugh, I do. another story for another day) promised...
Back in the day (geez listen to me..) I took off a day and went over to Mel's and assisted with the pump change on another member's truck - Charlie I think his name was. He has a motorcraft and a AZ pump side by side and for the $5 difference the motorcraft was hands down better build quality...
Exactly! Right now there is no recall. Rumor is EPA will initiate that very soon. VW has already admitted guilt, so the bulk of the money will be for fines. The corporation, shareholders and vehicle owners end up paying the price. There seems to be a push to get VW to do a buy back. Probably be...
According to the latest headline in Automotive News, VW is setting aside 11.3 billion on the books for Q3 (ends next week) for "irregularities". My gut tells me that is why they had Ferdinand (or however you spell his name) ousted as CEO and Winterkorn took over. He headed R&D before he became...
What are you trying to say about us?? LOL
As mentioned, I have bought one motor off CL. It was supposed to be in the Jeep for me to hear run. When I got there it had been pulled. Considering I drove an hour, rented a trailer (F350 was down for the dropped valve at the time) and needed a motor...
My understanding is that it was chrome grill, trim around wheel wells, chrome bumpers, am/fm and a higher gear ratio. Essentially a "fancy" looking XL.
When I did mine, I just used the brass PEX Tees found in the plumbing isle of either the orange box or blue box store. I tapped into the heater core lines. I also installed a heater core bypass at the same time.
I should be able to be there. I'll try and have the kids that weekend also. Not sure if the old timers will be there but it will be nice to see some trucks and faces now that I am back.
Not to hijack...there used to be a few of us in this area. I had about 5 at my house for the turbo install. I lived in Hanover, PA at the time. Our annual shake down run was in the spring to Gettysburg CG and a meet at Jimmy Cone in Mount Airy. Sad thing is through the moves and divorce I still...
OMG....I live! Have not posted in over 5 years I think.
I actually voted. Not that I own an IDI (or pickup) for that matter! Talking to Doug and Nicole (PAFixitboy and PAFixitgirl) this weekend and they both mentioned how they miss the rallies. Chattanooga was my last one (dropped a valve)...
There is a gasket between the turbo and pedestal. It has been 10 years for me but iirc I could not buy the gasket and just made one. I also think the mount used studs and nuts but again I think I just got new bolts to use.

Ray, MD State Police told me that having my businesses name on the truck was a red flag for them along with pulling non recreational trailers. Name came off that night!

The dog catcher told me to try and make it. I start seeing what I can do to be there. It is a good bit of swimming though! How far from Brighton are you?
