Convert to push button start? No key needed?

That would be OK too. At the moment the lock cylinder is out and the key is stuck but not in the run position so the cylinder cannot be reinserted as the pin will only depress when key is in the run position. I've tried a lot of searching and fiddling but that key is darn stuck and only...

Convert to push button start? No key needed?

Yeah I do have the E4OD. I guess I'll have to do some searching and reading. I don't want to create more headaches in an effort to make things simpler. I had thought about just wiring the systems you mentioned but I do want turn signals and windows, etc to work. I'm probably better off just...

Convert to push button start? No key needed?

Just wondering if anyone knows of a good writeup/tutorial/video/whatever on wiring up a start button to completely bypass the key/ignition cylinder? I live in a rural area and am not concerned with theft. I always wanted to do this and now that my ignition actuator appears to be kaput this may...

    Good videos in that link.

    Ignition cylinder problem

Yes, tilt. Also, with a screwdriver I gently tried to turn the part that the cylinder inserts into and it only rocks back and forth a little bit.

    Ignition cylinder problem

Well, just bought a 1990 F350 4x4 CCLB and I have my first problem. I went to start it and turned the key to run but something felt weird so I didn't try to start the engine--good thing I didn't because when I turned the key back to OFF or ACC nothing happened. The glowplugs and start lights...

Cheap ZD-9 Motorcraft plugs on Flea-Bay? Legit or sketchy?

Good info. It seemed too good to be true but every now and then something cheap actually works out.

    Vacuum Pump

In general, what part typically fails on the vacuum pumps? When I replaced the vac pump on my truck I'm pretty sure it was the original one, painted grey, with 300k and though weak it was still working/stopping things. I bought a Dorman about 8 years ago based on a member here saying the...

New tach sensor but still inaccurate reading.

Well I seem to have fixed my tach. While driving today I gave the gauge a nice five-finger-death-tap and voila! The RPMs seem to be accurate through the range now. I had tapped the gauge many times before but today I guess I had the magic touch.

Intermittent violent engine shaking, possible misfire.

I didn't think you were down on Fords but I think some of Toyota's reputation is more than a little BS. Once I started reading a lot on Toyota forums it seemed that many Toyotas were just as plagued with problems as other makes.

    Rear exhaust hanger

I don't know but recently I backed up towards a pile of branches and managed to hit one squarely with the exhaust and broke the rubber piece in the rear hanger. I used a couple stainless steel zip ties and just tied it back in place. It's as solid as it ever was.

Intermittent violent engine shaking, possible misfire.

The Toyotas of the 80s and 90s seem to be well made but I won't ever drive another Toyota after owning a 1st gen Tundra--what a piece of garbage from grille to tailgate. There were at least 5 points where water would pour in to the extent that even trying to quickly wash the vehicle resulted in...

Intermittent violent engine shaking, possible misfire.

The ZF can take some shaking, at least at N/A power levels. Years back I had a weird vibration start while driving to the dump with a full load of junk so getting an immediate tow wasn't an option--in my area the local AAA affiliated TT drivers have told me AAA has become bizarrely uptight...

Intermittent violent engine shaking, possible misfire.

I'm certainly no expert on this but I thought a repair sleeve was considered a standard part of replacing the rear main seal due to the old seal wearing a slight groove. I know mine leaked a bit without the repair sleeve.

Clutch pedal stiff & doesn’t engage the clutch when depressed, also pedal gets stuck when coming back out?

I suppose in a pinch you can "float the gears" to get home. An OTR truck mechanic who specialized in differential and transmission work suggested I learn how to "float the gears" as an emergency option, but it might also just screw up your transmission.

1990 crew cab front seat options

It's not just the seats. I'm not sure if I want an automatic because it just doesn't feel the same as taking off in 1st gear and the engine braking going downhill just isn't there even when shifted into 1st. Finding seats has been the most difficult aspect of my current truck so I'm a little...

1990 crew cab front seat options

Today I went and looked at a very nice 1990 CrewCab and am really on the fence about purchasing it. No 34 year old truck in my price range is going to be perfect but one wrinkle that concerns me is the front seats. The original owner, not the current owner, installed bucket seats using the...

New tach sensor but still inaccurate reading.

Yeah it's fully seated. I suspect the cluster is at the heart of the problem since the new sensor really didn't change anything.

New tach sensor but still inaccurate reading.

I don't know if the old sensor was oem as there were no visible markings. But the new Dorman unit behaves exactly the same so I suspect the problem is not the sensor. Today I was reminded that the tach will also sometimes decrease in RPM as I'm accelerating but this is not consistent behavior...

    Wix filter changed

For the time being I'm content with the Donaldson DBL7405 even though the price has doubled from $20 a few years ago. I actually run the filter for a year/10,000miles and change the oil once a year now, Delvac 1300. I add a quart about every 1500-2000 miles so there is a fair amount of new oil...

New tach sensor but still inaccurate reading.

I don't think it's accurate at all. When first installed it seemed to be reading correct at idle but after a few more starts it would sometimes read too low at idle and doesn't seem right at any engine speed. The old sensor had lost the jacket on a good chunk of the wires so I figured it was...

    Wix filter changed

Agreed, but Napa's prices are often very high and paying top dollar for cheap chinese parts is not cool. I am often shocked how much the local Napa charges for filters.
