96 - 94.5 powerstroke part swap can I do it?

I’m pretty sure the the pre ‘96 pcms supported obdII diagnostics but the wires weren’t run. I’ve read about how you can add the wires on other sites but I don’t have specifics or remember which site to go to a good google search should turn them up. Many of the 94-97 pcms are interchangeable if...

    7.3 Powerstroke swapped bricknose

You need to determine the year of the engine and go find that EVTM/wiring diagram for the engine and that truck. The superduty 7.3 has different wiring from the OBS 7.3. Then get the EVTM/wiring diagrams for your year of truck. Now get a fresh notebook and start mapping out powers, signals, and...

Steering shaft coupler/ rag joint upgrades

Another thing that commonly wears out on these shafts is the nylon bushing in the sliding section of the shaft. That accounts for a surprising amount of play in the system, usually more than the rag joint. I’m not aware of a good replacement currently in the market. Some have tried different...

big block chevy fueling for your IDIT+!!

If you get a chance to try again, consider the actuator arm off of an original fuel pump. Those had a different shape and might give you a better engagement or at least a different set of options for modifications. Also make sure the diaphragm is rubber that’s rated for diesel. Some rubbers will...

    7.3 IDI Turbo Harmonic Balancer

International used both ends of the crankshaft to do the harmonic dampening. The harmonic balancer and the flywheel work together as a set. In the real world mismatched components might live a long time but the original engineering showed that to maximize the life of components and minimize...

    Wastegated Banks turbo parts

You’ve probably solved this by now but if banks won’t sell it, just find an aftermarket watergate actuator. You can probably even find a bracket in the aftermarket to mount it to the turbo. The turbo frame size is what dictates the accessories used and that turbo frame was widely used for other...

Removing ATS 093 turbo from 1992 7.3 IDI

The turbo feed pipe on the ATS is supposed to split in the middle. Theoretically you pull the down pipe down and out of the way, then unbolt the two bolts holding the turbo drain/pedestal to the back of the manifold and presto, you lift the whole assembly up and out of the truck. If your feed...

    E4od questions/trouble

If you want to consider rebuilding it yourself check the details and links in the threads below. I’m pretty sure at least one of the ASTG manuals mentioned in there is posted here on OB I thought there were links in here to the other one as well but I can’t find those posts right now. Most of...

My first E4OD…what is the issue?

I’ve never driven an ‘90-‘91 E4OD but I have driven and rebuilt the E4ODs in a ‘92 and my current ‘97. Both were rebuilt to the ‘97+ spec updates. Neither of them go into neutral when the accelerator is released. As I mentioned earlier however, the torque converter does unlock and re-lock when...

My first E4OD…what is the issue?

Search this site for the astg manual. You should find it without too much trouble. I’m pretty sure I’ve uploaded a copy or link on here more than once. Maybe in the powerstroke forum. My ‘97 has always had a gentle unlock and relock of the torque converter when lifting my foot and then...

    Another terrible loss..

I remember Travis and his truck “The Enterprise”. That started back in the early days on the old ford-diesel site before it was renamed thedieselstop. That guy had way more than his fair share of troubles with that truck but I think it’s still around. But the way this community and Russ and Mel...

Any reason to not run a 200 AMP alternator?

Just make sure the output wire of the alternator can handle the current the alternator can produce. If you’re into DIY check out this place for a high current rebuild option. I’ve done several high current 3g ones and not had any troubles with them yet. If you haven’t converted to the 3g yet I...

Original OE Starter Woes... getting tired

If you can afford to have the truck down for a day or so I always suggest finding a local rebuild shop. They’ll use quality bearings/bushings and brushes. Most of the time the price is less than half a new one and you’ll maintain the OE armature and field windings which is where the most cost is...

Dorman 904-454 work for anyone else for FSV?

I don’t know about the dorman version but I paid for the aftermarket one on eBay a few years ago just after they came on the market. It’s been running fine for the last few years and it was plug and play. https://www.oilburners.net/threads/tank-selector-unit.86743/post-1041963...

Short and fat to tall and skinny

If you don’t have a resolution yet, I’ve got a short wide original ford radiator that I took off an ‘85 6.9 truck years ago. It wasn’t leaking then and it’s been in dry storage since. The outside of the radiator looks nearly perfect, no signs of leaking tubes or damaged fins. I never had it...

    Worth patching this frame?

Hot dip galvanizing would be an excellent choice. I don’t know what it costs these days but 20 odd years ago down here in central Texas there was a place that was doing it for $.30/lb with a $100 minimum. Their tank wasn’t big enough to do an entire frame but I used them to do all the trim...

    Worth patching this frame?

I’d go with what @no mufflers suggested. Laying beads to fix wear spots is a very common technique. It’s done on all kind of shafts that have been worn too much. In particular it’s done to crankshafts all the time. Future cracking issues can be mitigated by pre and post heating the areas to...

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

Go on eBay and get one of the Ford Service manual CDs that covers your year. It will have all the diagnostic/troubleshooting plans as well as all the wiring diagrams for the entire truck.

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

Ok, it’s an e99. I think you have a hot air intake heater as well in the intake y pipe. Disconnect that as well to see if the drain goes away.

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

Nvrmnd, I didn't notice what forum I was in, I thought it was the truck in your sig. You have the 3G in a powerstroke w/ an internal regulator. I would suspect the GP controller first. Disconnect it and see if the drain goes away.

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

Have you tested the regulator or at least checked the plug there? Your regulator is external to the alt unless you have converted to the 3G alternator. Disconnect the heavy wire going to the GP controller to see if that eliminates your current draw. If it does, then your GP controller is bad.

Need help with CDR grommet (Rubber piece) on 92 7.3L ATS Turbo setup

Factory Turbo trucks would make 8-10 psi. ATS kits made 10-15 depending on how much the fuel was turned up. As for welding the nipple on, it may be easier to silver solder or gas weld on such thin material but if you’re good at it welding will work fine too.
