My truck has all the cruise control stuff but they swapped out the column for a non tilt/cruise version. I'd like to have cruise control so I am looking for a complete column with wheel. Thanks.
A Brownie is an auxillary transmission that gives you an over drive and an underdrive. they came in many variations. You put them where your carrier bearing sits and get your drive shafts re done to accept this new piece. The 5000 series is about the size of an SM465 GM 4 speed truck...
Nice, that's about perfect compression.;Sweet I'd send the heads out to be fully rebuilt. It would be a good idea to have the head mating surface checked for straightness as well. Rebuild the oil cooler at this time too.
Is it strange to suspect head gasket issues with compression test that...
If you dig, you can source and install a brownie for less than a gear swap. With what you plan to tow and haul, you may consider selling what you have and finding an F350.
I'm pretty sure my truck does this too. Hasn't really affected anything, just looks really funny if you know what to look for as it goes down the road. Gonna look into this more.....
Love the Detroit's, personally think a built 6.0 is hard to beat sound wise. The idi's sing a sweet tune, not fond of the Cummins drone tone.

I would make sure to put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. My relief valve in the oil cooler header got stuck causing an excess of oil pressure to hydrolock the lifters resulting in bent pushrods. The factory oil pressure gauge never indicated anything abnormal. I'm not saying that this is the...
The turbo blocks are definitely built a bit stronger but to the best of my knowledge they use the same intake, same exhaust and so on. Mel may be able to chime in on the pump specs but I think they just turned the fuel screw up a bit from the factory much like we do many years later.

You are looking for a difference between cylinders more so than the absolute best compression that a warm engine can muster. I wouldn't sweat it and do the test on a cold engine that is much more pleasant to work on. If the chuff is there when the engine is cold, the compression test will show...
The NA trucks are loud and big block sounding. I am quite fond of my straight piped turbo 7.3, only wish I had 4" exhaust with dual stacks, more for sound purposes than function or looks.
Haven't had the chance to drive something as new as the 6 speed equipped trucks. Here is a testament to the E40D, behind a 1200 hp Cummins.:sly

Haven't had a dually but have ls in my truck and wouldn't trade for spider gears no matter what anybody said. I put 100,000 miles on my F100 4x4, had 4:10's with a Detroit Locker, 35" mud terrains and a 400hp 390 big block. I never regretted the Detroit, only wish I could afford it in every...
You shouldn't have any problem offloading the 5 speed. This may be the first thread I've seen where the swap is from manual to auto, lol. You have the same vintage cabs so the swap should be easy as everything is there, no junkyard searching. Also I believe the driveshafts will need to go with...
Non turbo blocks really have no issues running a turbo.
We can argue and defend these different vintage trucks all day long but the bottom line is that either one is capable of several hundred thousand miles and will require certain maintenance to get that far.
I ask what is your intended...
