No, I did not. But I obviously have now. I've got some thinking to do. If money were not an issue, I would do a lot. I would really like to do a Colt Stage II cam, studs, and o rings, fluidampr, and a few other things and be ready to run forever. But I'll have to figure out what I can...
First start up went well. Started easily enough. Lots of white smoke. First time out of the garage in 7 months under its own power.
I drove it about a hundred miles. Starts pretty well, a revolution or so at 50 F with no grid heaters used. Runs well. Need to fix a vibration problem...
Got a buddy to weld some beads on the ends of my lower radiator pipe to prevent blow off. Ground with a grinder and then dremel to remove sharp edges, then painted.
Wiring. This is the best way to hook in extra electrical splices. No need to fuse anything.
I picked up a...
Made a tube flaring tool with an exhaust clamp and pair of vice grips. Worked pretty well. This is one of my intercooler tubes. I made it up with 3” aluminum pipe and siliconintakes silicone fittings and t bolt clamps.
Intercooler mounts, really high tech here.
Most...
Engine painted up and ready to go in.
Core support prepped, primed, and painted.
Engine in. There wasn’t too much drama getting it in. I tried to get it in without dropping the transmission. Messed around with it for 3 hours one evening without success. Rented a jack for...
Thanks for the responses.
Yes, 12 valve Cummins. I've called the local machine shops, but was hoping I could get recommendations from people that have used them for work.
This thread doesn't really belong here, but it doesn't really belong elsewhere either so hopefully its ok.
I'm rebuilding my 12 valve, and am looking for machine shop recommendations in AZ. I'll need the block and head looked at, probably block bored and head decked with a balve job. All I...
You're slamming the front driveline from not rotating to rotating at the same speed as your rear driveshaft if the hubs are not locked. With the hub liked, the front driveline is already spinning, so its not a big deal.
How often are you all having to adjust your rear brakes? When I did them on my 94, it stopped great. But I had to adjust them constantly, once a week at least. Even a weekend getting firewood and it was time for adjustment. I figured, maybe with tougher pads I would have been better off. Hard on...
Ill be able to do this with my 97. I've got digital gauges showing exhaust and water temperature among other things. The pyro doesn't read below freezing, but the water temp sensor does.
I'd love to see a video of an IDI, or any diesel for that matter, fire up in a few revolutions at -36C (-32F), after sitting overnight with no block heater.
25000 miles. WVO filtered with a centrifuge, run through a Donaldson 10 micron filter after that. No water in the oil. 10 micron filter on the truck. First ip was the one it came with, so it was probably old already. Died after about 8k. Bought a rebuilt pump from Oregon Fuel Injection, lasted...
Starting up and on WVO makes your injectors spray fuel that they were not designed to spray. Its like squirting margarine through a spray bottle. It won't do it well, your input shaft on your IP might shear, and if it does run decently (which often they will), it will still have incomplete...
Only 3208 I've felt with was in an old snowcat. Overheating pile. I always figured that anything that could overheat at -40F was pretty sad. However, that doesn't mean they're all bad.
This one looks like a clean swap. Wonder how it runs and how it pulls.
Sounds like the oil thins up or the turbo seal opens up and leaks either into the intake or exhaust side. Maybe it leaks all the time into the exhaust, but only after the exhaust heats up enough does it start burning it off.
I would check that turbo myself for shaft play. I would think at...
Now that is cool. I plan to experiment with the Perkins diesel fired intake heater on my 6bt. I'll still have the grid heaters as backup. But they draw very little electricity, so I can save the batteries for cranking the engine over.
