Hard start when the engine is hot

Sounds like you're still getting air. Keep looking. The caps should snap down. Little fuel on the o rings helps them go down. Rule evrything else out before you pull the pump. Yeah, over the years I've been reading about the Pensicola pumps being hit or miss. It still sounds like a slow air bleed.

    Treasure Hunt

I'd love to get buckets for my 87 . Junkyards don't have any older 250 or 350's that haven't been picked clean.

Hard start when the engine is hot

Make sure your return lines and line coming up from the lift pump are tight/good. I just went thru the same thing. Pump and injectors have maybe 10k on them and the truck was hard to start when hot. Replaced my caps ,o rings and all up top fuel lines. Tighten the hard line to the pump from the...

The fan has a fluid clutch and isn't supposed to spin too freely.

Pump gear off, or losing my mind

I will definitely take you up on the offer Dieselcrawler. My son lives in Oley. I can stop by and see him after. I got the truck back together and running. Advanced the timing a bit according to the marks. Just a small amount of smoke, which probably means I only have to dial in the timing...

Pump gear off, or losing my mind

So to update on the pump issue, it looks like I was off a tooth. Pulled the pump today and marked it before I removed the gear. I used a hard drive disc as a mirror and found the Y on the cam gear. Also for the hell of it i did the counting 17 teeth to either side and putting a line on it. You...

Pump gear off, or losing my mind

When I punch it, and not that hard, I leave a cloud of fuel. Not WOT. The guy I got it from said it was smoking since the rebuild, and the reason he parked it. Thinking I have to pull the pump and bump the gear a tooth.

Pump gear off, or losing my mind

Ok so I found out 1 tooth is approx 6.7 degrees. A bit more than 2.7. I need to find some one with a timing meter!

I would just pull one out, put in the new. Torque them when you're done

Pump gear off, or losing my mind

So I have been working on my new to me 87 F250 6.9 for the last 7 months and I got it all down to just body work now, but I'm still getting smoke when I accelerate hard. Only in gear- park and neutral are fine. Starts and sounds better than my 91 7.3. Still might have remnants of 6 year old...

Replacing ball joints on Dana 50 ttb

Was curious. I have the leaf sprung 8 lug. I think the u joints were specific for the 44HD.

Replacing ball joints on Dana 50 ttb

Awesome thanks. Will give it a look tomorrow. Ordered a press on Amazon today. So I have a few days before I get on it. I need to do the rear brakes and axle seals, so that's where I'm going next.

Replacing ball joints on Dana 50 ttb

Does anyone know the difference between the Dana 44 and 44HD? I don't know if the tag on the door will give me that info. I seen some parts on Bronco Graveyard and they seem specific to the model.

Replacing ball joints on Dana 50 ttb

Going to give it a go tomorrow if I get a chance. Think I'm going to heat it a little just to open it up. For the passenger side, is the clip to disconnect the driveshaft under this boot? If so I'll attempt to replace the joints. What the hell, I bought uppers and lowers for both side before I...

Replacing ball joints on Dana 50 ttb

Just watched part of a video. Guy beating the shit out the top ball joint, hammering it down. He got it out, but is there a proper way to do it, or is that it. LOL. Maybe a little heat would help:)

Replacing ball joints on Dana 50 ttb

Thanks for the info. I'm learning about these front ends as I go. So here's a pic of where I'm at now. Does the top and bottom joint need to be taken out with a fork, or both pressed at the same time. Then once the knuckle is off, then the ball joints pressed out of the kn uckle? Getting ready...

Replacing ball joints on Dana 50 ttb

Thanks for the info guys. Haven't been online in a few days so I'm just getting caught up. All kinds of different info online about disassembly. Ended up buying a 2 3/8" 4 prong spindle nut socket. It has an indexing washer-nut setup. I was waiting for the outer nut, spacer, inner nut. Loosened...

Replacing ball joints on Dana 50 ttb

How's it going all. I never did the ball joints on one of these ttb's before. After the hub is removed, what is the order of removal of the rest? And do the axles pull right out, or are they clipped in the punkin? Thanks. This is on my '87 F250 w/3.55's

Time for injectors, or is timing off?

Just an update , and still need a second opinion. I STILL can't get my truck registered and insured because nothing is open yet. But I have ran a fresh tank of fuel with some hotshot to try and clean out the injectors. I've driving it up and down my street to get it good and warm, maybe loosen...

    7.3 idi tac issue

The tach on my '91 f350 w/E4OD never works till it warms up. Once the cab gets warm, the tach will work. Truck runs fine, just getting old. Mine never goes into limp mode though. If you rev it up a bit, it will jump up, but then back to zero. There's a joke in there some where if someone wants...

    IP leak

Hey all. I've been going over my '87 6.9 fixing leaks being I can't get the damn thing registered or insured being everything is closed. I resealed the oil cooler which took care of the drivers side. Then I had to replace the lift pump which was somehow leaking. After replacing the lift pump I...

Cold high idol and tach not functioning properly

Like Chillman said, that's normal. Don't worry about the tach when cold either. My tach won't register till the heat comes through the vents and warms the dash up. Been doing it for years. These trucks are getting old- some things just don't work well until warmed up, like my back.
