Last time I could not get Spicer. I put in greasable made in usa precision joints. 8 years later and 60000 miles they are still in there.
Amazed me for sure. I do grease them often.
Seems to be pretty good stuff. My friend has a hot shot business. He uses that grease in his trailer axles with great success. It is made by someone for Orileys and must be a very good grease.
Ford recommends a 3% Moly grease. Timkin who makes the bearings does not recommend Moly. I used the Valvoline Ford Moly grease and it turned into soup. After 40000 miles.
Going to try another brand next.
Pressure testing and using soapy water is much better at finding leaks than a vacuum test. A vacuum test can actully suck a leak closed. Federal regs say to pressurize the system with nitrogen to a minimum of 100 psi.
I use 200 psi.
When doing a r134a retrofit a slightly smaller tibe will provide a lower suction side pressure. Since refrigerant pressure and temp are very close this lower pressure means lower duct temps.
Within reason. Too small and you do not get tge evaporater completly flooded.
When I plugged the trailer in the brakes locked and I could not move. I unplugged it to get it home. I am going to pull the wheels to pack bearings and check the brakes.
I don't think the brakes were dragging but I will know when I jack it up.
You need to replace the Orifice tube with an orange one, change the accumulator. Add Ester oil, fittings then evac and charge.
Some say to flush the old mineral oil out. Others say to leave it as it helps the hoses seal. I have found that the small amount of mineral oil left in the system does...
3.55. But we have some very steep hills here I had to stop on. Same hills that require granny low in a semi. I know 4.10 would pull better but would also limit my hwy speed tremendesly.
I have an appt for Tuesday to get my trailer wiring figured out so that I will have brakes. Then I can go...
Both! I was reciently informed that I will be jobless by November. I am not spending money on anything I do not have to have. I was informed of my future the morning after we bought the trailer. We are super busy, making great income so I had no idea this was coming.
