I'm back in the IDI game!

Well I was hoping to get the compression test done today... But after looking for my 15/16 socket for way too long I finally remembered that I loaned it out and never got it back. So I will try again tomorrow after I get a new socket.

They definitely look burned ! :Thumbs Up It didn't even cross my mind until you mentioned it. I definitely don't want a reason to pull the engine haha. I need it on the road asap. I'm going to go ahead and do the compression test tomorrow.

I'm back in the IDI game!

I assumed they broke off. But now that you mention it , they did have zero resistance coming out. I was surprised how easily they came out. I will have to go take a closer look at them.

I'm back in the IDI game!

I was able to spend some time on the truck today. Unfortunately it isn't good news. I bought some new batteries and changed the oil/filter so I could spin it over for a compression test. I planned on using my glow plug adapter for the test so I pulled the glow plugs. I was pleased to see they...

Coolant suddenly sucked into the oil

I missed the smoke part and for it to be the oil cooler it would usually only happen when the engine is off ( 0 oil pressure but cooling system is still pressurized) , so scratch that. Luckily it didn't hydrolock and cause more damage. Wouldn't cavitation take longer to empty the cooling system...

Coolant suddenly sucked into the oil

With it leaking in to the oil that fast my guess is the water pump plate.

Coolant suddenly sucked into the oil

It is possible for the coolant to get in to the oil from a failed oil cooler. I would start with a compression test . Is there coolant in any cylinders? How did the water pump backing plate look when you resealed it?

Coolant suddenly sucked into the oil

I wouldn't think coolant would empty that fast from cavitation. Did you reseal the oil cooler?

I'm back in the IDI game!

Thanks! I've been trying to find it for a long time. I sold it about 10 years ago. It was my first truck. I put a lot of time in to it and eventually swapped an idi in it then sold it. I have a son now and would love to buy it back and build it with him for his first truck.

Which kits are they? Some are more of a pita . Sawzall is probably the easiest solution.

I'm back in the IDI game!

Thanks guys! I'm hoping it's just the oil cooler. But I figured it would be a good time to pull the engine, check everything out, do head gaskets, etc. Since it had water in the oil I'd like to pull the pan and clean it out , along with the oil pump, check bearings.. I hate doing the pan with...
