    Turbo intake part?

What turbo kit do you have? Is it a factory turbo(says "ford" on the air box), ATS, Hypermax, or Banks? The last three have multiple variations as well... A lot of different turbos were used over the years by various people. Probably the best thing to do is measure the diameter of the rubber...

Automatic hub questions, weird modification for lube

Um... what do you expect? There are other topics out there about manual vs automatic hubs(manual are more reliable), and I have no clue about adding gear oil to the greased bearings. It might work...? If you can keep heavy oil in there(and not leak past the seals), oil is oil. Otherwise, just...

Dialing in IP timing for turbo with charge air cooling

Your WMO cocktail, are you adding RUG to the mix or just 50-50 diesel WMO? If it's the former, maby add a little more gasoline to the mix, which will burn faster, thereby increasing the cetane number of your fuel. Yup, I totally agree. I assume because you end up with a hotter cylinder(higher...

Got an IDI van Saginaw pump!

I was down at the local Pull & save, trying to get whatever I could before they closed(IPs and lines, radiators) and happened on an '84 Van... with a saginaw pump! Obviously I grabbed the pump and bracket(and lines to the steering box) Now... Not sure exactly what I'm going to do with it...

    Need more gears.

Gearvendor Overdrive(while expensive) will let you split 3rd into 3rd, 3rd over. It feels about half-way between them. In addition to the double OD(5th over) for highway cruising, especially with the extra power from the turbo.

    18.4 MPG!

I'm honestly curious. It sure seems to me like 6.9s get better fuel economy than 7.3s do. They also seem to run smoother for some reason... I wonder if it's due to the head design differences on 7.3 for emissions... edit: With a 7.3, turbo, 5-speed, GVOD, and 4.10s, the best I ever got was 18.5...

Dialing in IP timing for turbo with charge air cooling

Unloaded, you won't really notice much I think. I notice it in the color of smoke, and at light throttle with a bit of a load, the "diesel rattle" that can go away when you floor it at the same RPM. Also, watch EGTs, with a constant setup(same hill/load etc). At idle... it's basically way...

Dialing in IP timing for turbo with charge air cooling

I personally believe in timing by ear. You can play with numbers all you want, but when you get right down to it, if the "right" number produces a worse result... it's not right! The best way to get it dialed in, IMHO, is by first getting the high end where you want it - adjust it back and...

    Need more gears.

You could always go with a gearvendor OD(which allows you to split a couple of gears), then go with a lower geared rear axle. Or, add more power if you need. Now... admittedly, I've only started with perhaps 16K behind me(22K total), but I've not had issues starting in 1st high with that.

Which Rear Axle Ratio? (31ft MH, 7.3idi turbo, Allison 1000)

I ran my Banks sidewinder as well as Factory turbo setups on the dyno; peak torque(with sufficient fuel, this was with a RD2-110 IP) was at 2750 RPMs. Basically right where the 'crossover' point between the turbo pushing more air and the IP running out of it. The 1400/1600 torque peak is N/A...

    7.1 IDI???

OD on 7/16-14 is .4375. Basic minor diameter(the peak of the thread on the inside) is .4167. So, by drilling to .4375(which will remove all existing threads), and then tapping with a 1/2-13 tap, you still end up with most of the thread - you are only losing ~.0105" per side of thread form. We...

    Engine issues

Blue is retarded timing, typically 6+ degrees retarded. White is even more retarded, enough that it's actually missing.

    7.1 IDI???

I disagree. Justin @ R&D did it - just drilled and threaded. You do lose a bit of thread form, but there is plenty of meat - I recall that he tested to failure a stud in that hole - the stud stretched before the block threads gave way. He, however, gave up because he couldn't get the threads...

    Glow plug connector idea

So, something I've learned: If you have too high resistance, AKA, your glow plugs aren't drawing enough power, your controller will short cycle, because it thinks they are hot. It's measuring the resistance/current using that metal zig-zag piece on the controller. So, if you want the controller...

    In case of EMP

Here's the thing - you are right. Kind of. If things look like they can recover, you do your best to do whatever you can. Heck, if you still have cash or barter, that's the best. On the other hand, if/when things turn into a zombie apocalypse wasteland environment, with entire deserted cities...

    7.1 IDI???

I know that's the reason a lot of cheap rebuilds fail - because they don't leave that lip, just Locktite it in. Which is why they fail.

    In case of EMP

And that's not even counting stuff like: 1. Tanks full of diesel in various places that people aren't able to get to: Buried tanks, farm tanks etc. 2. Supplies of other types of oil - 55 gallon drums of various gear oils and hydraulic fluids will be located in industrial busineses. 3...

The Classic Diesel Designs' Race Truck

I don't know, I really think that those "dedicated race trucks" with no coolant, which have to be towed everywhere... just doesn't seem right to me. Seems like you ought to be able to at least drive your truck *to* the race, more or less...

    7.1 IDI???

I've seen that shop and what they offer, haven't talked to them. I did talk to a guy who looked into them, and said he had several people tell him that their quality control wasn't the best, issues with whatever motor that person had built. This seems to be a common theme with IDIs - people...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

I know it's supposed to work that way(logically, it does, based on how the insides of the pump work). In reality, however, I've seen a lot less fuel coming out the lines with the throttle at idle when cranking. I don't know if it's due to timing, allowing the ports to line up better, or that the...

    North Idaho IDI parts

I'm up in the Sandpoint area of Idaho. I... Collect IDI parts. I currently have pretty much anything you can think of when it comes to IDI parts, some in better shape than others: 1. Complete 6.9 blocks, in varying levels of repair. Have a couple of 7.3s I need to go through 2. 6.9 and 7.3...

    Got the banks kit on.

Make sure to lube the return line O-rings with high temp wheel bearing grease, NOT Vasoline. Works wonders for keeping them from leaking over time.

    Troubleshooting PCM - 97 F-250 cali emissions.

A good friend of mine picked up a '97 F-250 2x4 E4OD with 500K miles on it. Ran pretty darn well, really. He convinced a friend of his to loan him an Edge Evolution tuner(94-03 7.3 PSD model). Connect it up, program to race mode... tons of power! He then shuts the truck off, switches the...

    White smoke

You've drained the fuel filter, right(make sure there's no water in it)? If not, it's worth a shot - refill with ATF and reinstall.
