    Might of miss read your post is the shiny part in the valve cover what you are talking about? If so that is not a ford part, looks like a filter older Dodge 318 /360 used. Actually you could probably just gut that one , as the IDI does not use a filter there.

    That called a CDR valve and you can get them on Amazon. It is not a filter. Just google CDR valve and go from there.

    finally got around to installing one of Wes' billet check valves on one of my truck today. Now to see I if it solves my problem in the morning. Starts and runs out of fuel or air in system when cold start.

    My 93 dually I pull 18 -20 k behind it , for over 10 years now. 4.10s and close ratio ZF5 . One has to use common sense and have good trailer brakes, I also run air bags to keep the load level.

    That makes a lot more sense compression fitting , then compression brake which is a completely different thing. Hopefully it is something else besides the head gasket.

    I do believe you can carefully remove them, you need to note the position of them to reinstall. I would use some locktight when installing them . Been a long time since have worked on one , but it is do able. And yes they need to be removed in order to rebore.

    Doesn't the 83 use a external slave cyl compared to the later using an internal one. complete different throwout bearing system and size.

    I have a couple IDIs one NA and the other factory turbo , use 15-40 Rotella in them all the time with no problems, year around and we have cold weather.

    Although have not done it yet on mine, I think the real way to test the MC is to find fittings to plug off the mc and see if it is bypassing or not. Have done a lot on mine and still have the problem.

    Plugging it off with fittings just to test it for bypassing, making sure of good / no good. Did not delete RABS yet, did put a know good one on for a dead truck I have. No fix.

    I think on mine I am going to find fitting to plug off the mater cyl to make sue it is not bypassing first. I have replace the vacuum pump, booster, mc with no fix yet. Thought about putting an f450 mc on , but they want good money for one, the bore is 1 1/4 instead of 1 1/8.
