When you fellers are driving around town do you drive In overdrive or Out of overdrive? I just naturally leave my truck In OD because that's how it is when I start it up. It's a PITA to push the button every time to disengage the OD. The truck is much more responsive when it's out of OD but the RPM's are higher and I figure I'm using more fuel too. But am I doing harm to the engine driving around town with the OD engaged. I drive the truck hard and usually the only time I do disengage the OD while in town is when I need some extra getty-up, plus I turn up my chip to the 125hp setting. I'm not really worried about fuel economy because I drive my truck like a sports car. The truck even sounds better when it's Out of OD. What do you guys do? I guess I'm just being lazy.

I think Bob Riley has a kit to fix this problem Gar, its a little spendy but the way it works is it always leaves the tranny out of OD until you push the button. Very nice for town driving.

Now to answer the question...... I am like you, too damn lazy to take it out of OD everytime I re-start the truck so it stays in OD. My tranny wont shift into OD untill around 39-40 mph so for most surface streets driving it doesnt get into OD anyway. Then for the larger streets or boulevards the speed limit is 45 for the most part and I perfer it to be in OD at that speed. I think constant hunting between OD and D is bad for the tranny (TC slips on each shift and makes heat) but the engine could care less if it is turning 1300 RPM or 1800 RPM so I dont see any harm there.

I also leave the truck in OD. Mine shifts into OD at 43-45 mph.

Mike,
Everything seems to be a "little spendy" these days! I think I'll just leave well enough alone. I have one buddy who drives with OD off and in the 125HP setting all the time! cookoo But he's just a "kid". ;burnout Oh, to be young again. LOL

I do whatever it takes to keep the RPMs between 1500 and 2000. If that means OD OFF, then OD goes off. Under 2000 rpm for best mileage, over 1500 for best power.

For around town driving or less than 40 mph I keep the OD off. It prevents me from running over the old fart that is driving to slow.
