Is WMO ok for Cat Bulldozer 1991

Hi and thanks for this nice forum.

I am planing to build filtering station to use WMO on my construction equipment. I do have the following machines:

Bulldozer Caterpillar DH4 year 1991
Excavator Caterpillar 225 year 1990
Volvo Truck A35 Year 1991

I am palning to get oil from a local shop that sevice induviduals. I plan to filter with: Steel filter on the pump hose - 25 micron - 5 micron - 1 micron.

Do you think theses machines will run on the WMO 80% / 20% diesel ?

Are there any chemicals I should put in the oil like ATF to glean the plugs ?

Do you guys think there is any need to start with a 25 micron filter??? This isn't turkey grease or veggie oil, which might contain bones and chicken feathers. I'd think starting with 5 would be sufficient..just my opinion. The stuff I get i filter through a double stacked 5 micron sock filter then through a 1/2 micron.

you should be able to run those mixes easy especially in the warmer weather. i would start off lower though and build up just to feel it out.

i have a 5 to 1 mic filter but i was looking at getting a steel mesh filter to be the prefilter. i do get a good bit of crap sometimes when i pick up from places that i would like to keep out of the good filters.

if i had to do over again i would probubly go with a centerfuge. you can get them for about 180 and hook them up to shop air. i got at least half of that in filters and fittings if not close to that price. then no filters to change and much finer filtration, might still go that way.

I just noticed "Iceland" You might want thinner mixes?

How warm does need to be to be able to run 80%/20%

The average heat in summer in Iceland is 58 Fahrenheit.

1. If to cold is there any inline oil pipe heater that I can run the oil to the motor ?

2. Is there any easy way of heating the oil in the tank ?

that is cold, around 50deg F i start having trouble running thicker mixes. you will want a heating system to get the fuel warm enough to burn. you can search wast veggie oil systms since they are heating the fuel similarly to WMO users. WMO dousent need to get as hot though.

i simply have a plate exchanger before the fuel goes into my filter dut i havent been running in the winter. mankypro on here has a nice set up going on he runs year round with.

I believe that in europe the "cetane" rating on your diesel is higher as you get a much higher quality of fuel in Europe than we get here in North America and as such you computer (ECM) as well as your timing will be calibrated accordingly so you may find some interesting changes in engine performance so be aware. I would also suggest magnetically filtering your WMO as well.

After reading on the internet I thin I will change my plan and have two tanks one for diesel and one for WMO. Heat up the Bulldozer, and the wmo with the regular diesel. Then switch onto the wmo tank, when desired heat is in the wmo.

How hot should the wmo be when it arrives into the engine ?

By heating the oil up in centrifuge to 120-140 farenheit and run 3 times through the centrifuge it will filter down to 1/2 micron, do you believe that I need to run through magnetic anyway.

I am thinking that 140 degrees farenheit isnt quite enough to let the centrifuge do what it does with optimal efficency. The hotter you get the oil, the better the centrifuge works. I've left my centrifuge on for hours at a time with room temp oil in it, and it does nearly nothing. Heat that same oil up to 175 degrees, and its a whole nother story.

Magnets wouldnt do much with oil that has already been thru a centrifuge, although placing them in the prefilter wouldnt be a bad idea. Magnets are only going to catch iron and steel particles, they do nothing for aluminum, copper, bronze, stainless steel, silica, etc. Thats why a centrifuge is ALWAYS a better idea for final filtration.
