Rpms read zero without throttle

My tach sensor has oil in it which I'm sure isn't a good sign but not sure how it would even get there. But yeah when I accelerate it acts normal but as soon as I left off it drops to 0. Also my speedometer needle bounces as I accelerate

Replace the tach sensor that's in the block near the IP, even with the alternator in the front of your motor. That should also help shift better too. 89$ fix

My tach wAs acting up a bit I pulled the sensor and it had a bunch of crud on it I cleaned it and worked just fine
