Manual glow plug button good temp fix?
I will speak out against moving the glow plugs ground to the ground for the relay and letting your pushbutton supply ground. You'll end up introducing a bunch of resistance and your pushbutton will arc and fail and you'll be pulling a bunch of amperage through the wrong wiring. The glowplugs...- sgallaty

Yes. When I finally pull off my RV batteries, there is zero rust and corrosion on any of the wire terminals so long as I've maintained a good coating. I don't slather it, but I make sure everything has a good film on it. Also in response to the OP - borrow an amp tester from autozone if you...- sgallaty

I strongly prefer marine connections on batteries. I got into the habit on my RV, and have never looked back. For regular batteries you can crimp marine ends onto your cables, and then make a good clean snug connection with a marine terminal adapter using dielectric grease (think vaseline) on...- sgallaty

So what did you do with your truck today?
This is my 2wd 1992 van - but with the help of the wife replaced orings with viton from mcmaster/carr, replaced return lines with clear tubing, and clamped everything. She's oil-tight now. In other news, love working on diesels with the wife. That brings a couple closer - especially if she...- sgallaty

Glad to hear it. Wife and I just replaced our whole set of o-rings and return lines on the 7.3 IDI van. We had some significant leaks, which all turned out to be deteriorating fuel line ends. We replaced all the o-rings with viton rings from McMaster/Carr and the return fuel lines with...- sgallaty

Just picked up a new toy. Haven't even laid eyes on it yet - f250 (I am pretty sure 250) 7.3IDI ZF5 4x4 (and that's about all I know) - bad injector pump I believe, but I have a spare. Seller dropped it off at my farm, wife paid for it. Figured for a grand, I can't go far wrong. $1000...- sgallaty

Wow ok holy smokes. So I found something I've been after for a while now - a koenig toolbox truck bed on an old f350/f450 frame. My goal was to have a nice big toolbox trailer, mount an air tank and propane tank, load tools on it, build a gasoline powered air compressor head - etc. and so...- sgallaty

WHAT TO DO TO MAKE 7.3 IDI RELIABLE
Hm I have to think about this. Is my 7.3 "reliable" ? In a way I guess I am more of an engineer and a pilot than I am a passenger waiting for a dummy light to go on. If his idea of reliable is neglect it until something stops working, don't bother. You'll get another 25k out of an engine...- sgallaty

Serpentine belt tensioner
I wager that the shock probably helps with the bounce from the AC compressor. I carry a spare serp belt with me. I've become good at relacing it =)- sgallaty
