    I'll certainly try that but the fact that the trans clicks a solenoid when I touch a batt cable to the post would indicate some type of electrical drain at the transmission.

    Rings are different. The top and intermediate rings on a 7.3L IDI are a keystone design. Top ring is 15 degree second ring is 6 degree oil control ring is rectangular.
