I'll start with my lift pump. I put a brand new one on, but maybe it's defective? By removing the lift pump, will I be able to see a leak/residue? Or just hand pump it and look to see if it's leaking?
When I compression tested engine, all cylinders were in the mid 400 range so hopefully it's...
I just did a zf5 swap and at same time replaced my 6.9 with a supposedly good used 6.9 that had been sitting for @ 5 years or so. Started right up and seems to run good. But I thought I had a valve cover oil leak that was dripping down on exhaust pipe, from exhaust manifold on driver side...
I just did a C6 to zf5 swap in my 86' 6.9. Someone told me to use a 6.9, 4speed flywheel behind my 6.9 for balance purposes (bullcrap, you can use the SMF conversion or the 7.3 DMF on the 6.9). I did and modified my clutch fork to compensate for the thinner 6.9 flywheel (I work at a welding...
I resealed my tranny and added another 3+ quarts of fluid through shift hole; and added a good layer of insulation under rubber floor matt. It did help quiet it down in the cab, but when you open the door it's crazy loud echoing off the street, etc. Get your smf conversion done and let me...
I have the same sticker on my zf5 on my 88' parts truck. I'll look and check dates. I have always wondered what that sticker meant. The truck ran/drove fine when I bought it 10+ years ago.
Hudonville, let me know how the solid mass flywheel works. I just did the zf5 swap to my 86' f350...
I'll check out what speedo options are available. I'd need a speedo for sure, and would like to use my original location, but could do w/o an odometer.
Thanks for info!!!!
U2slow, Thanks for the link; it pretty much sums up what needs to be done for zf6 onto 7.3idi.
I could make the stepped spacer for the top two bolts, but would send out a SMF to be redrilled to accept a PSD 13" pressure plate, disk, etc. Clutch master/slave could be figured out as well...
Lotzastuff, I want the zf6 to have 5 good usable gears + the granny 1st and granny reverse.
U2slow, I'm going to check my other truck to see how the 5speed bolts to the 1" spacer and to the block. W/o the spacer, what would the trans bolt to?
Putting together a 88', 2WD work truck with 7.3 idi.
1. Will a 7.3-zf6 be a straight bolt in to my 88'-7.3? From scouring the forums, it seems like I would delete the thick, steel plate as the zf6 has a thicker bell housing flange?
2. Can I use the zf6 flywheel/clutch set up on my idi...
Ok cool!! Thanks guys!! Here are some pics of my modified clutch fork so I can use my thinner, 6.9 flywheel. I spaced everything off the dims from buddy's 88', 7.3+zf5. You can see the even wear on the fork fingers when it's resting on TO bearing.
Finally got trans and TC in!!
Does the TO bearing always ride on the Pressure Plate fingers? My buddies 88' with 5 speed has the TO Bearing riding/touching the Pressure Plate fingers. On my old fords with mechanical linkage, the TO Bearing didn't ride the fingers.
Got engine in Monday!~!! But what is this vent/screw in deal that goes into the intake pan. I checked my other parts motors and one has solid plug pushed in and other one had dirt filling up the hole were the 3/8'' socket drive goes. 1st pic shows solid plug in parts engine. 2nd, 3rd pic...
I was able to press cam gear back on my parts engine with a piece of 7/16-20 all thread and nut/washers. But I'm having real back luck with this swap. When I picked up my flywheel at machine shop Fri, I left my good, less worn lobe on the counter!! hahahaha!!! I just have to laugh about it...
TNbrett, you're right! The gear was really tight and I used a puller to remove it. The lobe came off fairly easy. But I used an impact/driver on puller for both pieces. I figure I'd just thread a stud back into cam, then use a coupler nut and washer(s) to press lobe and gear back on. I'm...
