Update... as I somewhat suspected, the solenoid on the starter must have been bad but, it had me thinking the fender mounted relay was at fault or maybe something in the wiring.
Replaced the starter with another reman and it's cranking like crazy > > > hopefully this reman lasts longer then the...
I'm still confused... but I'm old.
I remember Mel's Conestoga Diesel.
But then I 'believe' he sold the business to someone else and he and his family moved out of state.
Then... I 'believe' he was maybe doing IP rebuilds from down south... and he stopped completely?
Wait... is Moose Diesel Mel's gig as in the Baby Moose rebuild Mel did on my original IP waaaay back in 2010?
I thought he sold the business and his family moved somewhere south?
Any rate... Mel is/was a world of knowledge, I drove to his house where he timed my Baby Moose and we took it for a...
The column shifter on my bought new 1988 F250 Lariat is sloppy... feels like one day it'll pull away from the column. Believe I read somewhere parts for it are not available.
Many years ago I did replace that 'slider' switch down on the steering column that the long key rod connects to. I did adjust it for a solid engagement.
Being every time I tested the 'S' plug with the 12V test light with the key in the 'start' position and it lit-up I don't believe or hope...
Thanks for all that... earlier today I 'believe' I did use the remote-starter from the + battery to the 'S' terminal and it did crank... I'll try that again tomorrow.
I 'believe' the 11.70V at the S-plug was because that was during a GP burn on a cold engine.
What I can do is 'if' I get the...
1988 F250 7.3 -Original owner.
I'm perplexed, could sure use a little direction here; this is getting worse- I turn the key to 'start' I get a strong click that sounds like it's coming from my one year old rebuilt starter... like the solenoid gives one strong click with every turn of the key to...
Update... I ended up using a made in Mexico relay from the brand "Standard" apparently it's more HD vs the ACDelco I was going to use.
The truck started but earlier it also started with the relay I removed ending in "AA".
Called a different local Ford dealership that went above and beyond... if...
Not a "weak start" as it cranks hard but, a very weak 'click' at the relay... as in, not enough voltage getting to starter.
Second possibly ... the solenoid on the reman starter is already acting-up... I installed it several months ago after the original starter from 1988 was getting very tired...
OE Ford Part # for fender mounted starter relay... need number to cross reference at parts house.
1st time ever went to start truck and just got a 'click' like bad batteries but they're new and the starter is a few months old.
With key 'on' I jumped the two large posts at the fender relay...
