I always use high output alternators and the system I got were meant to work with the factory electronics. I don't buy the cheap crap from part stores simply because most of those fans have a high draw electric motor. Those are ok for a single fan application but not dual. Also I never mount the...
Worst case see if there is a place nearby that builds hydraulic lines. Make sure you have the exact overall length and proper ID. It is a short term quick fix in an emergency situation. I have done that more than once in the oil fields.
I was pretty sure it was a stupid question lol. Thanks for being direct though. Since I am new to building diesel and the other person is very limited with idi knowledge there will probably be a lot of stupid questions in the near future. When we start messing around with this insanity I'll...
#4 instead of using starting fluid get you a spray bottle from dollar store and put diesel in it. Use that bottle to spray it directly into air cleaner until you can fix glow plug issue.
I think my crazy ideas have become border line insane. I sparked the interest of another local engine builder. We are going to experiment with a few things and probably blow up a few engines but it will be fun. He worked for international and Cat both now builds cummins and powerstrokes on...
Unfortunately I no longer have access to what's needed to do it myself. Shop was my cousins, he went back to Ireland about 10 years ago after unfortunate events working as a contractor.
My line of thought is this, the 3208 and 6.9/7.3 idi share some of similarities. Not saying it would be easy and require other work to be done to the engine for valve clearance be it rods or pistons. The two engines have a huge difference in CR and to create the needed valve clearance would be a...
I used to build race engines and a lot if the time we would custom order a cam based off the specs for other engines. I asked a legitimate question if anyone had considered it because one of the biggest concerns for any engine is getting the damn thing to breath. I didn't ask for smart a** reply.
I'm the same rolling coal just to do it and waste fuel I think is just stupid. I'm pretty sure my build probably will but want to try and keep it at a minimum under normal driving.
Definitely check soft lines in tank if any and also where the lines connect to the sending unit and selector valve. I have had problems in the past of the fuel line end not sealing properly on gassers but that's usually not discovered until it leaks fuel since gas engines aren't so picky about...
So far I looked it an cussed previous owners for the way they "custom" mounted the flatbed they had on it and the front bumper. Not to mention some stupid self designed cross brace made out of C chanel and square tubing under transfer case. It's like they said oh I can use this steel to weld...
I'm noticing that cam options are still very limited, seemingly due to such tight tolerances and lack of interest.
Now I have an insane idea, the cat 3208 has the same firing order as the idi. Good bet that cam won't fit our engines but it got me thinking.
Has anyone ever tried using the specs...
That's pretty much what I was thinking just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. When I can get everything figured out and put down for the build I think I'm gonna have to shoot you an email if you don't mind.
