I am over 1000 miles on the mixture but man the smoke is bad. I did order the specific gravity teter and will put it to use but the mix is in the truck and I have to keep rolling with it until it gets here. Any help on reducing the smoke, other than installing a water injection kit?
to reduce the smoke, just put in some plain old #2 diesel. Sounds like you are running way too high a WMO ratio. You might want to thin it down a little in the meantime. You are doing these fuel experiments on a very-expensive-to-repair 3rd Gen. Just so you know,
, you would be much better off doing this with an older (and cheaper to repair), mechanically injected unit, like a Mercedes Benz 240-D for instance. Or a P-pumped 1st Gen Dodge CTD.
I am NOT trying to discourage you, please dont take it the wrong way
i personally dont use water injection, but have heard from plenty of people who do use it and swear by it. If you are running high mix ratios of WMO/fuel, you are going to be introducing more carbon into the combustion chamber, which may or may not form deposits that can degrade power by clogging yada yada yada. Supposedly, water injection steam cleans the combustion chamber to prevent the carbon deposits from causing problems.
Also, working the truck pretty hard will help to burn off carbon deposits from time to time. I would still run a bottle of diesel fuel system cleaner in a tank of plain diesel fuel now and then to keep the injection pump and lines somewhat clear and free flowing.
